Sometimes I feel so outnumbered out there in the world; surrounded by evangelical fanatics who have the ability to talk very loudly and always seem to be heard by a lot of people.

(44 posts)Presbyterian (USA) Minister of Music. Think you feel outnumbered and surrounded? I'm trying to maintain sanity living in a VERY Red county of a VERY Red state. Thankfully my parish is located in a Blue location. Peace!

(30,741 posts)Yes we are outnumbered, at DU and everywhere else. But we are here and I, for one, am not going away.

(22,541 posts)I'm anything. I'm also a bit of a seeker and I love paganism. Thankfully, the church I go to doesn't mind seekers and explorers like me. I love finding commonalities and roots that bind us all. Traditions we share and new ones we haven't seen from other cultures.

I think they're full of it. Life continues....(and, by the way, I'm right.)

(9,267 posts)And we get it from both sides, the Fundies who say we're "not really Christians" and the atheists who say that all religion is evil and we're idiots. And yes, there's a lot of that one here at DU.
Yes, Christianity has a history of misogyny and homophobia. But many churches have recognized that the positive message of Jesus' teachings can rise above historical prejudices and recognize that all are equal. The ELCA was one of the first major denominations in the US to ordain women, and we have recently voted to welcome gay clergy.
Someone else here at DU recommended The Christian Left on FB. I "liked" them and I'm getting a lot of great, thought-provoking stuff. Highly recommended.
