Who has donated to whom?

There are some very strange things here. Just the ones I have picked up on so far:

Mitt Romney donated $500k to himself (seems extremely high)
Mitt donated $2.5k to Tim Pawlenty this election cycle
Ann Romney donated to Tim Pawlenty this election cycle
Michelle Obama donated to Hillary in 2008
Barack Obama also donated to Hillary in 2008
Tagg Romney donated to Tim Pawlenty (he donated to Mitt as well)
Colin Powell donated to McCain in 2008 (endorsed Obama though)
Herman Cain tossing money around (seriously, I'm not even going to try to add up how much he donated to his campaign)
Michele Bachmann donated $4 MILLION to her campaign

It seems like a lot of candidates donate to their rivals for whatever reason. Of course, some of these amounts listed may be duplicates, so I am not sure if the amounts I listed here are correct.

Not uncommon, after someone withdraws from a race, for the winning to candidate to help them do this in an effort to curry their support in the general election.

But I'm only speculating.

4. I think the donations to Hillary by the Obamas

were to help her with the cost of her campaign once the nominee had been determined. Didn't BO also encourage his supporters to contribute? That's the way I remember it, anyway.
