and the Fox "News" faux patriots would exploit them in every way possible.
I may slam Obama for all the let downs, but he is not like that at all. There IS a difference.

but I start to cry every time I see this. This 90 year-old veteran's respect for President Obama is so obviously visible, it is indeed touching. Just focus on that one word -- respect -- it is something we almost never see in our politics today. So it becomes overwhelming when it is so abundantly demonstrated in a picture like this.

I think about my Dad (WWII Navy Vet) and if he were still alive, I just know he would do whatever it took to stand on his frail legs, just like Mr. Archie Hackney.

BTW: It was much later in life that he revealed he was secretly gay.

I still have the ceremonial flag from his military burial.

I wished my Dad had lived to see Pres. Obama elected, but my Mom was lucky enough to. Both would have cried tears of joy if they had the honor to meet him. I could just see my Mom lifting herself from her wheelchair to shake Pres. Obama's hand. Great photo, thanks so much for posting, it made my day!!

And just think about the racism that was commonplace after the war--

Of course, many brave and committed people in the civil rights movement weren't black or brown but white, but still, this wonderful man's insistence on standing is extra touching in the context of his service in WWII.

I love this picture too. A lot.

It takes a lot for a person to show and feel respect. Very little to belittle and criticize and obstruct.

This picture is very, very moving to me. And I say, God bless you man!!!!!! And may your years be abundant and fruitful and rewarding, as is your heart.

I am reminded of Cheney faking it with a wheel chair so he did not have to stand up.

At the swearing in ceremony Cheney stayed, sulking as is his manner, in the wheel chair they rolled him in with. It was noted that he had been seen walking about before and after the event.
