Trump's law and order message falls flat in Wisconsin
A Marquette Law School Poll showed virtually no movement in voter attitudes toward mass protests; Democrats say Biden helped neutralize the issue.

Donald Trump had all but taken a victory lap in Wisconsin last week, insisting during a visit that his calls for law and order restored calm in Kenosha and accusing Democrats of failing to protect the community from violence.

Voters don’t seem to be buying it.

According to a prominent state poll released Wednesday, there was little change in how Wisconsin voters viewed mass protests, even after several nights of looting and rioting in Kenosha last month. And Joe Biden, whom Trump has repeatedly sought to portray as too beholden to the "radical left" to keep American streets safe, still clung to a lead in the Badger State, besting Trump by four points.

The Marquette Law School Poll showed Biden at 47 percent to 43 percent for Trump, which is within the margin of error. In Marquette's August poll, Biden was ahead, 49-44.

Democrats said Biden's decision to push back on Trump's messaging may have paid off. Biden delivered a major speech in Pittsburgh last week, carried live by several cable news networks, in which he unambiguously denounced the violence that grew out of peaceful protests.
