(6,182 posts)I went to a Catholic grade school and high school.
There was a lot of judgement and guilt dished out by the priests and parishioners, but never the anger and hatred we see today in these "Christian in name only" people.
Jesus' teachings were all about love, forgiveness, compassion, inclusion, empathy...all those things these CINO people lack.
The "teachings" of Satan are all about fear, anger, hatred, callousness, selfishness, guilt, condemnation, exclusion...all those things these CINO people embrace.
It's not hard to see who they really follow.

I like your "CINO" reference.
"Christian In Name Only."
Fitting, sadly enough.
I keep thinking about that two-word gut-punch: "Jesus wept."

(21,487 posts)John Lewis, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Jimmy Carter -- all Christians.
Is this what you think of them?
The Democratic members of Congress who are members of non-Christian faiths -- Is this what you think of them because you believe in your own rational superiority over them?
Is it rational and logical to use sweeping generalizations against those you disagree with? Isn't that part of the definition of bigotry?
Is the Democratic Party a big tent, or is it only big enough to accommodate those who share your views on religion? Is there a religious litmus test for being a Democrat?
Im not religious, but I find it interesting that those here who consider themselves accepting of all faiths often show how they clearly are anything but.

(9,895 posts)Religion in the churches, free and unfettered by the state - no state backed OR persecuted faith traditions.
Politics in the state, free and unfettered by the religious passions of the day (and ANY day when it leaves the churches and enters the public square).
Religion - ANY or ALL of them in reality - has a rigidity of belief and requirements for admission that simply do not belong in decisions for all citizens to be held to. It is a voluntary act to be a member of one of these clubs, and as such, it muse NEVER be compulsory at the direction of the state or enforced specifically using the power of the state.
I firmly believe that anyone has the right in America to believe whatever they want - so long as it does not harm others, negatively impact society or unduly influence the freedoms of others to do likewise. I don't care about any of them, because I share none of them, and that is the way our governance should follow - if your religion bars YOU from alcohol, so be it...but that has NO BEARING ON ME or anyone else not of your traditions; if your religion commands you to hate, so be it...but that does not obligate me OR SOCIETY in general to mandatory reciprocation; if you believe a zygote or fetus is a person despite a total inability to survive without machine assistance or extraordinary, so be it...adopt as many as you can muster, but that does not eliminate a woman's right to choose the fate of her own body.
I find religions to be comically misguided things, founded around the concept of control of the people through willing abdication of their own responsibilities in life, but I defend anyone's right to huff as much bat guano as possible, just keep it in the proper places and away from my children or we will have words (or more)...

(28,125 posts)Wow, but I think you've misconstrued the post. We've often previously discussed how the christofascists** have taken parts of the bible/their faith to fuel their hatred of progressive views.
For instances, they use this to judge gay people: "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
Leviticus, Chapter 18, verse 22.
**
Christian fascism denotes the intersection between fascism and Christianity and encompasses the fascistic, totalitarian, and imperialistic aspects of the Christian church. It is sometimes referred to as "Christofascism", a neologism coined by liberation theologist Dorothee Sölle in 1970.

(100,081 posts)In one sentence, they'll say the most evil, soulless, shitty thing you could possibly imagine. And then in the next they will say "Jesus loves you! God bless!".
Uh.. I'm pretty sure you fucked up what Jesus actually said there, guys.
