releasing the tapes months ago. So the master of shifting blame just did what he always does. “Don’t look at me. Look at him!”

Don’t fall for it. tRump is as guilty as sin and we all know it. Could Woodward have done something different? Yes. He could have. But bottom line: tRump is a heartless, souless, dickless monster. And the blame belongs with him and maybe those who helped him out. But he is at the top of that dung heap. Period.

After we deal with tRump, we can start dealing with the others. For now we need to be laser focused on him.

And I am not making any apologies for Woodward, but what would Trump and his cohorts have said if he had released it then? And who would have believed it? There's no second guessing a sociopath. Hind sight has its benefits, but it doesn't resurrect the dead.

It is either their demise of the demise of the our Democratic Republic. Their intent is the transformation of the Republic into imperial presidency no different than those of the Russian and Chinese governments in which the legislature is totally subservient to the an authoritarian presidency and his cabinet of oligarchs.

Those who are masterminds of this impending result have significant accomplishments that that has been accomplished with the use of a fascist menu. They have developed a masterful propaganda network in which they have convinced a significant portion of the population that the opposition must be destroyed to save the nation from unpatriotic immoral godless nihilists. They have flooded the courts with extreme right wing federalist society judges that will crush any opposition to outright unconstitutional legislation. It is also allied the party with religious fundamentalists who are determined to impose their religious convictions on the entire society creating a virtual theocracy.

It is beyond even the imaginative "1984" in its extremism. It is a nightmare reminiscent of the Nazi party in Germany and could only eventually lead to the same devastating conclusion.

In fact their strength is actually in the control of local governments. That is where the power base is created and then extends to every aspect of our civilization. People must come to the realization that this situation is exactly what took place in Germany and to a lesser extent in Italy. When empowered they become ruthless not unlike religious zealots who justify their slaughter of those who oppose them as justifiable. They envision themselves as the instrument of righteousness that provides them with immunity from challenge. We are at the very present time seeing this phenomena with increasing frequency. I would encourage people to read Aristotle's "Politics" if they wish to see the logical transformation of a democracy to outright tyranny. It is a story as old as time itself and foolish repeated again and again.

She has been telling everyone in our mutual acquaintance for the last 2+ years that what is happening here is exactly what happened there. For some reason, the few Trump supporters in that circle believe she is referring to Democrats when she talks about those who supported Hitler when he came to power despite her making that very clear to them. They either cannot or will not see their party or their own beliefs in that way. They believe Trump is going to save them from the radical liberals who want to destroy the country.

It's very unsettling.

The orange syphilitic has picked up on the idea that somehow Woodward is to blame for not telling us sooner.

OK, but the information, the knowledge, that Trump was misrepresenting and lying about the severity of covid-19 was there for all to see. We all saw the information about the initial outbreak in Wuhan. The Chinese authorities instituted a lock-down of the city, to the point of locking some of those infected in their apartments. We saw the sick and dead in their hospitals. We saw the disease spread to Europe and the scenes of the sick, dying, and dead in Italy. We saw this in France and Spain. Was anybody watching?

With near unanimity, the infectious disease community (infectious disease physicians, epidemiologists, microbiologists, immunologists, etc.) cried out that this disease was much more lethal than influenza. Was anybody listening?

The news media communicated the the reports of the growing pandemic to anyone who wanted to read or listen or watch. Was anybody paying attention?

Everyday we saw Donald Trump proclaim that covid-19 would be a minor problem, would disappear...like magic, that under his leadership the United States was doing better than any other country, that we were number one, that without his great actions we would have had only 10,000 deaths, make that 25,000 deaths, 60,000 deaths, 100,000 deaths. Now, when the prediction is that we will reach 300,000 deaths by the end of the year, he tells us that without his great leadership we would have lost 2 million.

He lied every time he talked about the disease. We shouldn't need Bob Woodward to tell us that Trump lied and that Trump deliberately lied. We all saw it and heard it everyday.

Thu Sep 10, 2020, 11:47 AM
Sep 2020

1. It is not all Bob Woodward's fault. It is all Trump's fault.

2. When dis Trump give this information to Woodward? Timing is everything. If he told Woodward within a few days of being briefed Trump may have a point, even though it would be for the wrong reason. If it was weeks later then it would have had little impact because the damage had already happened. The panic in the stock market happened anyway.

3. Had Woodward done an l.p. Ed right then it would have ended the interview series in its tracks.

4. Trump somehow expected a flattering book to be published right before the election. How could he read it so wrong. And when he reads Woodward so wrong you can be sure he reads the likes of Kim and Putin just as wrong.

Had Woodward disclosed the information -- even with tapes-- Trump would claim "fake news" and the right wing sound machine would turn the volume full up (just like they are blaming Woodward for not releasing the news earlier as the reason 190,000 people died). In a normal world, Trump would have resigned today, or the Dems in the House to pass Articles of Impeachment, or the 25th Amendment would be exercised because the president was clearly in such a state of mind he could not fulfill his duties.

No, some other shiny object will appear (oh, look, he said we got new weapons!) and everyone's attention is distracted again.
