I know someone who has died. I know a family in quarantine. My nieces children are schooling virtually. My boss's daughter is schooling virtually. How are you doing?

I've known so many folks in quarantine and isolation I've lost count, but at present 5 coworkers, one of whom is symptomatic and in isolation

(8,718 posts)I believe she said from Covid-19 - a very painful death. I follow her on Twitter. She said she did not know what name he posted under.

(39,343 posts)My father who has immune issues caught it too and felt mildly yucky for a week. My step mother felt bad for two weeks and still is tired more than a month later.
I thought I was going to have to bury my father when I heard he caught it. We both have lupus and other issues.
This plague, like all of 2020 is fucking weird.

(28,340 posts)I've had 4 coworkers fall ill with SARS CoV-2. None hospitalized. My daughter had a coworker that died. I know several people with kids schooling remotely.
I just got out of quarantine today.

(6,148 posts)I have a good friend who "felt yucky" and seems to have lost his sense of smell.
He went on a trip with a group of 600 skiers in February. Many got sick. 4 died.

(4,959 posts)and another person who I'm 1 step removed from who died (a friend's sister who I never met).
I know several people who have been diagnosed, mostly who were symptomatic. One of them is a COVID "long-hauler" - she was seriously ill for several weeks (April & May). She still has physical and memory problems associated with it. She's working, but her ability to concentrate and energy levels are seriously problematic. When I talk to her, she always says it's getting a little better, but I am wondering if it's more like she's just getting used to it.
I know tons of people who have been in quarantine (after possible exposure, travel, etc). Plenty who have lost jobs and health care.
As for other impacts, I own a small specialty retail shop and we aren't letting customers in (due to our own health concerns - we're a mom-and-pop) - everything is for pick-up only. Our sales are down roughly 50%. Our landlord isn't budging on the rent. I don't know how we'll get through this winter since the weather won't allow us to do what we do now, which is basically "personal shopping" for people as they wait at the door. We somehow need to hang in here until our lease is up early next summer or until the pandemic is over, whichever comes first. Because if we can't operate normally we aren't signing another lease. I don't know what we'll do. Hubby and I have put everything we have (money, energy, heart, soul) into this business for almost a decade. We're old Gen-Xers and I have no idea what kind of jobs we'd be able to get if this goes under.
And still, in the grand scheme of things, we know we're among the lucky ones.
