Just said "Let's get this out of the way, I stand behind the players 100%, they are trying to bring change to this country that is long overdue..." . No equivocation, no apology, it was strong and sincere. NFL Thursday Night Football. Well done Chris, thanks.

(12,319 posts)I was not impressed. It was condescending to me. And I'm disappointed in the players. They could have made a real statement tonight. Instead they placated. The unity thing was bullshit. One team in the locker room, one on the field. They should have all knelt.
Then the fans started up with that tomahawk chant shit. I was so disgusted I changed the channel.
Flame away. I don't fucking care.

He has some kind of rare nasal and whiny sounding, homely voice that gets me reaching for the mute button the instant he opens his mouth, it's that bad.

(2,186 posts)I'm a Steelers fan and I have Steelers & Eagle-fan friends who swear he's "biased" against the Steelers/Eagles. I've never picked up on it. I find him to be extremely knowledgeable and funny.
I can't stand Tony Romo, however. He annoys the crap out of me. But I digress.

(4,595 posts)I wish he would shut up from time to time but I enjoy his commentary. He really doesn't seem too full of himself.
I've never liked Collinsworth as a commentator and I think he hates the Steelers, but his stock just rose with that very good comment.
DEFINITELY talks too much---and kind of says things both ways, like "This would be a great time for a run right up the middle, or, (as the ball is snapped) they could go deep and try to surprise the Ravens" or whatever. Then, whatever happens, he can look like he knew what was going to happen. He was a crappy quarterback and even his voice gets on my nerves for some reason.
But different strokes for different folks. I'd still say Collinsworth (even though he was a Bengal) is much better. Extremely knowledgeable b/c of his side gig of putting together all kinds of stats. I also saw a "Football Life" thing about him and decided that he's a good guy. And I like when he says "Holy Smokes!" for some reason.
I used to like Phil Simms, too, but a lot of people didn't. I could be the oddball here.....

(778 posts)Chris Collinsworth is just regurgitating what his NFL and network overlords perceive to be the proper marketing message at this point in time. He knows where his bread is buttered. He is no winter soldier.
Message....OK.
