(6,695 posts)Granted, I take the comment somewhat personal since I'm Kentucky grown. However, ignorant easy brainwashed Kentucky rubes is indeed a small part of the equation but not the largest.
Remember, Kentucky also elected Andy Beshear, who by all accounts is doing a phenomenal job.

Must have had some pull to get in the Reserves. Chances of combat were practically ZERO.
Discharged after only 5 WEEKS of service.

(25,563 posts)I don't know that much about post polio and how physically fit he was and whether this optic neuritis was part of post polio.
In March 1967, shortly before the expiration of his educational draft deferment upon graduation from law school, McConnell enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as a private at Louisville, Kentucky.[16] This was a coveted position because the Reserve units were mostly kept out of combat during the Vietnam War.[16][17]:1112 His first day of training at Fort Knox, Kentucky was July 9, 1967, two days after taking the bar exam, and his last day was August 15, 1967.[10][16] Shortly after his arrival, he was diagnosed with optic neuritis and was deemed medically unfit for military service.[16][18] After five weeks at Fort Knox, he was honorably discharged.[16] His brief time in service has repeatedly been put at issue by his political opponents during his electoral campaigns.[16][18][19]

(79 posts)But polio doesn't steal your soul and make you the enabler-in-chief to obstruct every good bill that comes to the Senate from the House. Your own greed for money and power does that, Senator McConnell. I will be voting for Amy McGrath in early voting, which starts here on October 13.

Kentucky has a choice to make that will reflect the content of the character of the majority of people in that state. Millionaire Mitch or fighter pilot Amy McGrath.

(8,826 posts)This, versus McTurtle or Rand Paul. Seems to me Kentucky is the biggest threat to our country. No, let me corrrct that, not a threat, HAS fucked this country long enough. That criminal pale as a dead soda cracker, vertical coffin occupant, lying Putin ass pimple needs to hurry up and end. Fuck long turtle lives. Talk about a swamp creature. Drawing water from a swamp only exposed all the slime dwelling there. And made em breed excessively to survive, as do many species when survival is in danger, they have massive reproduction to keep themselves alive.
Like Mayflies, republican sawnpers ad a mass emergence after 2016. Damn shame they dont die in one day like a mayfly adult.
Come on Kentucky, ya got coal ash on the brain?

(6,212 posts)The defense was a 24/7 ready to engage from an attack from the east. We always thought the attack would come from the east primarily the Russians (sounds funny in today's world). I lived in MA near Otis AFB. I know we had multiple fighter jets on stand by ready at Otis as well as Washington and other Air Force and Navy installations up and down the east coast.
All though I have no direct evidence of the fact the VP Cheney was at the Pentagon that day "overseeing" an imaginary air space intrusion coming from the east (Russians?) so all fighter jets were playing war games of the east coast while NY city and Washington DC were under attack.
Something was fishy, to say the least.
I also believe the history books will report that the plane in Pennsylvania was shot down by one of our fighter jets under orders from Washington. I know a tinfoil hat theory which in my mind would have been justified IF IF it was headed DC to attack another facility.
One final thought NONE of the military personal who were on alert to engage like @AmyMcGrathKY US Senate candidate, KY were losers or suckers!

(509 posts)National political power brokers keep putting both of them up to run in statewide races because of their 'resume' but they are both piss poor politicians that keep losing for a reason.
I live in Kentucky. I love McGrath as a person. I've even met her once. She'd make a great senator and I can't wait to vote for her. But she has about the most inept political campaign I've ever seen. I don't know if it's her or her campaign managers but she is terrible at politics. The ads are so bad they are cringe-worthy. She's also very tepid in her responses to everything. She is probably over-consulted by political handlers. Moscow Mitch is killing her on TV and she has no adequate responses.
McGrath is loved by everyone outside of Kentucky because of her resume, but there's a reason why she nearly lost her primary.
BigOleDummy
(2,272 posts)Moscow Mitch is tearing her up here. I wish I could be more optimistic about her chances but... what can I say? I live in suburban Louisville and well..... I've seen her ads and those of her opponent. I agree, her campaign managers/advisors or whoever is "in charge" there are woefully inadequate and I cannot understand why. We NEED Kentuckys senate seat and .... well, I can hope. Yes, she's not the best campaigner in the world I agree but hell, we got Mr. Beshear elected why did Ms. McGrath not take any notes from him and his campaign?

(1/2) On September 11, 2001, I was sitting in the cockpit of a fighter jet at the end of the runway 24L in Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in Southern California, awaiting orders to engage any aircraft that might be en route to another attack.

(2/2) That order never came that day. But the reality is, the call to defend our nation in times of crisis isnt a one-time thing.
Its one our leaders should take seriouslytoday, and every day.
