Tim Kaine takes fighting Trumps court takeover off the table: Im asking Republicans to be true to their word
https://www.rawstory.com/2020/09/tim-kaine-takes-fighting-trumps-court-takeover-off-the-table-im-asking-republicans-to-be-true-to-their-word/
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said on Monday that drastic measures to stop President Donald Trumps next Supreme Court nominee are off the table because he hopes Republicans will be true to their word by refusing to confirm a new justice in an election year.
During an interview with Kaine on MSNBC, host Hallie Jackson noted that some Democrats have suggested using impeachment and other legislative techniques to delay the replacement of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Kaine, however, said that his strategy is based on the hope that Republicans will keep their word.
Would you support impeaching either President Trump or Attorney General Bill Barr as a way to essentially delay the Senate on a vote for the presidents court nominee? Jackson asked the Virginia Democrat.

The alternative: that hes stupid enough to believe a republican will stick to their word, is unacceptable.

(2,002 posts)The only choice of action is to refuse to participate in a confirmation hearing and "let history" judge the GOP if they insist on going forward alone. I think Schumer is on good grounds to hold a prime time press conference, spell it all out for the American people with the words of Republicans from 2016 and ask if this is what they really want to support. Graham's silly "Kavenaugh" excuse makes no sense and we are weeks away from the election. I think Chuck can easily make a case the American people support.

(35 posts)They should be linked - if they proceed with the SC nomination then impeachment proceeds immediately for abuse of office, obstruction of justice, breaking campaign financing laws, and violating the emoluments clause. And let them continue through the election with a more favorable senate.

(3,282 posts)we dont have a mechanism to fight this, outside of the nomination of a fatally flawed judge. We just don't have a card to play.
We can't ahutdown the government over it, it'll hurt us.
If you read RAGE, there is a snippet in there where I believe Graham talks about how they do things knowing that we will overplay our hands and they will get away with it while we get hit.
This needs to change and we need to play this smarter. We need to gain power before we can exercise it. Focus on the election and we can deal with the courts and other things on the other side.
