Who is the worse president: Trump or Bush?
Some people have maintained that Trump, as horrible as he is, is not as awful a president as GWB. Bush lied the country into a completely unnecessary war and got hundreds upon thousands of people killed. He probably could have done far more than he did to prevent the 9/11 attacks. And then there’s his massive bungling of Katrina which caused even more deaths.
However, Trump’s death toll is way up there now as well and still rising. Over 200,000 people and counting are now dead thanks to his incompetence and complete indifference to the lives of the citizens he took an oath to protect. And his response to Maria was just as awful, if not more so, than Bush’s to Katrina.
My personal opinion is Trump is the worse of the two. Bush was terrible, but I never got the sense that the damage he created couldn’t be fixed by a future president. Trump has fundamentally changed the country in a way Bush did not and could never have hoped to. He’s made stupidity and hatred things to be proud of for 40% of Americans. He’s done extensive harm to the image and dignity of the Office of the President. He’s replaced intelligent debate and political discourse with childish name calling, lies, and hyperbolic accusations, something that other members of his sick party have been more than happy to go along with. His disgusting mark will still be here even after he’s gone, quite possibly long after.
When Bush left office in 2009, I thought there would never be a worse president than him in my lifetime. It’s unbelievable that it took the country less than a goddamn decade to prove me wrong.
