(40,221 posts)We must not let them get away with destroying democracy.
We must vote like our life depends on it, because it does.

(2,626 posts)Cool thing is, the majority of us do remember. He's got until Jan. 20, 2021 to leave the White House.
None of us can do a much about his declarations of refusing to leave the house where the majority of American people don't want him.
Who cares? It doesn't matter wtf he says. This is the United States of America. We don't have a dictator here no matter how much he wishes that were the case. Instead of worrying about it we should shame him for his lack of understanding of how our government works. Period.
I am trusting that there are those within our government who are able to do something about it should his deliberate fear mongering to "own the libs" gather energy in the ethers and come to pass. The only way that can happen is if we latch onto his words as though they mean anything other than the rantings of a desperate fool whose entire ego trembles at the thought of losing the power and the money that power has bought him. Together, we are bigger than him.
If the worst should come to pass, trust that we will deal with it together. We have just as much love for this Democratic Republic as any generation that went before us. We will do what we must. For now....let his intention to put fear in our hearts dissolve like a cloud. We are more than a match for whatever life brings us. We got this. No matter what. He is a destroyer and a liar. His job is to create fear. Don't let him touch your mind with his rhetoric. He is not worth it.

(8,599 posts)If you had been here in 08 and 16, you might have a less enthusiastic opinion; this place was a flame war and a landfill fire (you know, like a dumpster fire but bigger and more toxic to the local residents ) all at the same time. It was quite stressful, especially knowing we're a bunch of people who agree on about 98.999 % of every issue!
But overall, we're an excellent place to keep up with news, politics, government, and current events, as well as having members who regularly post interesting opinions. As an aggregator we are excellent; our members work hard to keep information posted, and we care about not sharing junk sources or propaganda. We do very well in the snark department, and I see EarlG's memes on the interwebs pretty much every day. One of the best thing about DU is our sense of humor. So yea, overall we are pretty good.
I did not realize I was going to wax poetic...

(2,626 posts)After giving up on Twitter and FB, it's refreshing to see people engaging with each other in a forthright way. Not everyone agrees, and I love it that people are free to disagree here without rancor. Just straight up sharing, venting, commenting or asking questions for clarity. People disagree and I'm loving the "No harm no foul" attitude.
Based on what you wrote about 08 and 16, DU has evolved. That's very cool. I'm so glad I found DU.

(10,082 posts)I think he must be acting in Russias interests because his actions in the past several months have been incomprehensible for someone running for re-election.
Imagine if, in late January, Trump had shared his intelligence briefing on the virus and immediately followed the pandemic plan already created. Had he appointed a national leader to implement a national response, the likelihood is that the virus would have been controlled several weeks ago. Voters would have given him a great deal of approval for tackling the virus. Instead, he created a haphazard system that has been totally ineffective, and he has lied about the virus constantly, which leaves the country not knowing what yo do and totally divided by partisan politics on safety procedures. Such massive division like this weakens the US. So does the constant distraction of the violence that Trump encourages against BLM protesters.
And now the election. Trumps advisers must know that he is actually turning off a lot of voters with his crazy comments about ballots and saying they cant be counted. His cult will stick with him, but he needs independents who are less likely to be as brainwashed as his Fox cult. Its as if his goal is not re-election but doing as much damage as he can in his remaining months as president. Ive never understood his behavior, but now it just seems counterproductive for re-election but immensely destructive of US democracy.
