(34,661 posts)Way back when in 1972 as a recent Teamster Board Member,we negotiated a new Worker Contract with what was known as the Warehouse and Storage Group of the Twin Cities. Paid and maintained with zero out of Pocket Expenses and no capped Limits for Catastrophic Illness. Plus the first eye and Dental insurance with zero co-pays for any Bargaining Group in the State.
One year earlier we as a Union did our own cost benefit analysis by a private Insurance Cost evaluator . Eighteen months to do what is known as a cleanup for every member plus his family members Eye and Dental care. We cleaned up in just a few weeks over 12 months, lost time hours by our Members not needing time off for family dental and eye issues was virtually zero once the clean up was completed.
First dollar coverage for all Medical was the big ticket item. Our lost time numbers for sick calls was the major game changer. Our Employers Association was able to have their Insurance bills within lest than 20 months. In fact their Health and Welfare cost were lest than the cost of their Workers Compensation Insurance costs.
Sad to say, that Employee Benefit vanish in 86' with a leverage take over of our Business and followed within weeks with a Bankruptcy by the new owners who had zero clue what they bought more or less how to manage a business.
