Picturing the first gathering of the Trump-branded property known as "The Supreme Court," as Brett scowls and mutters "I like beer" and Amy patiently waits for the mother ship to call her home. Goodbye Roe V Wade, healthcare, and anything with the initials "LGBTQ" in it.
Call it what it already is: Donald Trump's Supreme Court, and it's as corrupt as he is, as cynical as he is, as outright stupid as he is, as racist as he is, as fascist as he is. The Republican Party killed it, and Trump is driving another nail in its coffin with the nomination of arch-conservative Catholic Amy Coney Barrett. RBG is gone, and look at who Barrett will join: Clarence Thomas? A clown. Samuel Alito? A rubber-stamp hack. Neil Gorsuch? A replacement bell-ringer for racism. Brett Kavanaugh? A weepy beer-swilling prep-monster. John Roberts? He wrote the brilliant line, "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race." Tell that to George Floyd, Johnny boy.

Clarence Thomas is a very old 72
Kavanaugh can be impeached for his testimony @ his hearings
If Trump and McConnell force through Amy "Coney Island" it will be a pyrrhic victory.

(8,200 posts)It has nothing to do with guaranteeing that the laws will be constitutional. Every decision is foreordained by which party enjoys the majority. It will become even more radical with major decisions based on the member's religious beliefs or their party's dependence on the support of the Christian fundamentalist radicals for their political survival. They will not give a damn that their decisions will absolutely contradict the Founding Fathers determination to not allow the establish a theocracy or religious test for citizenship. They were well acquainted with flagrant abuses that religious zealots, such as the proposed new justice Amy Barrett, can wreck on society.
The destruction that the Republican Party has visited on our nation is so deep and comprehensive in scope that it is difficult to comprehend the damages. The Republicans have become solely dependent on the support of the religious radicals who are determined to impose their will on the people that their defeat is assured if they would dare to object. They have become little more than idiotic puppets with out a shred of credibility. I say good luck to those who come after me. At least at my advanced age I was able to enjoy a nation, that regardless of its shortcomings, was striving to become what the founders dared to envision. A nation dedicated to the principles that every human being is endowed with inalienable rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness and that no one, regardless of birth or standing was above the law.

Yup! A long time ago in a little town in N.W. PA our next door neighbor (very middle class neighborhood)
was the county D.A. and his brother was Ray Shafer who was the governor of the state. A better man you
would ever meet. He liked playing with the kids in the neighborhood, he supported education, civil rights,
infrastructure, the environment, unions, and he was republican too. Those days are long gone.
Dwight Eisenhower would have had no time for w, Cheney, Trump, Bill Barr, or the right wing snake oil
salesmen who are "Christian Evangelical Pastors." And the idea so many republicans are so willing to
work with and be owned by Vlad Putin would have made Ike livid.

(16,254 posts)Isn't that what they call the woman who advises her on being subservient to her husband and other mind-controlling idiocy? Maybe Barrett has reached the position of "head" and can now tell the rest of us how to act/behave. Since they must stay loyal to their cult, once they sign up, it makes one wonder who will actually be sitting on the Supreme Court.
I think this group she belongs to should be looked into deeply before her confirmation to anything.
She is so far from what RBG stood for, it is unreal.

(9,998 posts)As mainstream Christian denominations have declined, the religious cults have increased, along with the right-wing conspiracy theorists. Is it something in the water?!!! Why do we have so many wing nuts here?
I read somewhere, probably here, that in Barretts cult men would atop by homes throughout the day to make sure the woman was doing her chores on time. That any woman would put up with that behavior astonishes me. We have a whole new generation of Stepford wives, and now well have a Stepford judge on the Supreme Court programmed to be a right-wing robot.

(16,254 posts)We didn't fight all those years for women's rights to be knocked down again.
I well remember where a woman wouldn't dare ask a banker for a loan to start a business without her husband's knowledge. I was innocent enough to believe we were equal. Silly me.

(16,254 posts)she can become a head. That's probably once she's passed menopause and can't add to the population of the cult...of no use anymore. I may have dreamed that, as I've been having strange dreams since Trump entered the opera.
No matter, it's weird and not something we need to have to deal with unless we choose to join the cult.
I can just see Trump ROTFLHBO knowing he's shoving this down our throats as payback for treating him so badly. Sorry pussy-grabber, you just made me angrier.

(6,254 posts)degrading individual rights, tort reform, corporations running amok, the environment. If Dems take all 3 branches they must do something with SCOTUS and the Senate. Add seats and states. I am sick and tired of the backward, fanatical religious right dictating how I live. Dems must be bold, they must crush the right and try to deal with the right-wing media monopoly and make Liz Warren the new Trust Buster to go after social media and tech giants. Last, the must reorganize the Federal courts to dilute the damage Tump and NcConnell has done. It's a lot and they may have only 2 years to do it if they take the Senate but do it they must.
