(7,901 posts)I find I'm watching a lot of old movies and TV, especially Andy Griffith.
I recently tried to educate a few of our local news folk but their response was essentially "We are only following orders from above." In short, they know about the truth but are not allowed to discuss it in public or on camera.

(2,537 posts)5 hours out surfing in a brand new 6-10 foot swell topped off by an indica bong fest. Like yesterday. Ill try it again today with surf at 4-6 ft. there will be a lot of kids and a lot of out of towners getting in the way. Makes it a 2 hour day but doable.

(25,816 posts)I grew up in Hawaii, many years ago, where the water is as warm as the air.
Surfed several days a week after high school. When there was a south swell the
buzz was on. We'd go up to the third floor of Castle Hall where you could see the
ocean pretty well. Cut last period and hit the south shore.

Class of 71. 5 years before Obama. Ended up Santa Cruz.
My favorite town spot was Point Panic in Honolulu. Adopted Rockview in the Cruz for the similarity of the rocky shoreline. Yesterday was the first day I wore a wetsuit since May this year.

(25,816 posts)My 8th grade science teacher was big wave surfer Fred Van Dyke. My mom taught there too. Fred
would invite us to his house on the North Shore beach at Pupukea, right down the shore from the Pipeline.
I was in a club called Southern Unit, I met many great surfers, and somehow ended up in landlocked
So Az. Read 'Barbarian Days' by William Finnegan, a great surf history of those days.
My favorite town spot was Number Three's or the Kaiser Bowl. Great days that I thought would last
forever.
A few years ago I went to Tamarindo in Costa Rica. The surf was so-so, but I met Robert August in his
board shop (the guy in the first Endless Summer). I miss sitting on my board, waiting for a set. warm
and sunny, green Pali in the distance.
I knew the Blears. Gerry Lopez, jock Sutherland and Randy Rarick to name a few. Van Dyke i knew about. More later in daylight.

(25,816 posts)Gerry Lopez dated my buddy's sister. My buddy and I were the only haoles in Southern Unit back then.
We found uncrowded places. Having the Southern Unit Green trunks gave us a bit of cred so guys didn't
drop in on you. But I preferred places alone when possible.
I remember going to Roosevelt High on Friday nights to watch surf movies. Guys like Bruce Brown would
sit on the stage and narrate the films to a record player while all the best surfers in town and country
would wander in and outside to get stoned. Halcyon days to be sure.

(63,221 posts)I have been watching old "Twilight Zone" episodes lately. They are less bizarre than our current reality. Seriously.

(7,349 posts)Followed by Alfred Hitchcock Hour. There was one episode of Hitchcock that scared the crap out of me as a kid, just saw it last week. Great episode!

The beginning of a tow family story. James Caan is in it and honestly I never cared for Jon but as the old rancher he was good. Never thought I would say that.

(23,102 posts)My news intake, including here, has gone way down, just too sad and mad. So, if there is a God, he's a fascist o a fascist enabler is a lot of what I can think about this week. I also scream in my mind - How is this Possible, that America has sunk so low?
