What I remember is that they lost money.

I’m actually glad the Clintons are rich now.

The idea behind the Whitewater development was to create a sort of "Camp David" retreat for Arkansas state officials. However, it discounted two things:

1) It was too far from Little Rock, about 3 hours by car. Not the sort of drive you want to make two ways every weekend, and just making that trip chews out too much of those weekends.

2) The people Clinton brought into his gubernatorial administration mostly enjoyed their off-time by going out on the town: an "eating at restaurants and dancing at clubs" crowd, not a "get out on the river and go fishing" crowd.

But such minutia never thwarted Republicans from seeking the "key" to the "Whitewater scandal."
