Chris Wallace says he didn't anticipate Trump flouting the debate rules

...

“I never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did,” he said.

In his first interview since the chaotic and often incoherent spectacle — in which a pugilistic Mr. Trump relentlessly interrupted opponent and moderator alike — Mr. Wallace conceded that he had been slow to recognize that the president was not going to cease flouting the debate’s rules.

“I’ve read some of the reviews, I know people think, Well, gee, I didn’t jump in soon enough,” Mr. Wallace said, his voice betraying some hoarseness from the previous night’s proceedings. “I guess I didn’t realize — and there was no way you could, hindsight being 20/20 — that this was going to be the president’s strategy, not just for the beginning of the debate but the entire debate.”

Would tell you he would do anything different.

I know Wallace can't (although he should if he is being really truthful) come out and say he screwed up. This statement however, just paints him as either a complete idiot, or a liar.

Trump is as predictable as they come. What in just the time he has been in the White House, points to anything other than a bullying, steam rolling performance. Have you not seen him in the last 6 months? You just had an interview with him! One to one, where he was belligerent. He thinks that being a bully is a good strategy that makes him look strong. He thinks he WON the debate!

Stupid!

don't ya know rules don't apply to the orange buffoon?.. 4 years ago you and your fellow media stars knew what a depraved piece of garbage Trump was/is but because you despised the Clintons with a burning hot passion you rebranded grifter Trump and sold him as a viable candidate...and yesterday that malignant sociopath stood on a stage and exposed himself to be exactly what we always knew he was...and yet you weren't expecting this level of crap? C'mon Chris you and I know that's bullshit....btw, Chris, you owe Joe a major on-your-knees-begging-his-forgiveness-for-allowing-the toxic-braying-from-the-ass-on-the-stage-to-overwhelm-you mega apology...and please don't resign...I want you to stay where you are with the knowledge that you are the worst of the worst presidential debate moderator of all times...good for you...

It’s an abuser’s and a sociopath’s best friend. The lack of desire to do something harmful or humiliating to another is incredibly strong in social beings. There are lines you don’t cross. There are rules you obey. When you have to deal with someone who follows none of those norms it can shut down your options.

I feel for Wallace. I don’t think he did imagine how rabid that cornered rat would be, nor did the team. 45 plays the abuser and the victim simultaneously and leverages them.

That said whomever does the next one needs to refuse to do it unless there is a way of stopping him and keeping him from shouting Joe down.
