I ...just... can't...
Why would anyone waste time listening to the views of such malignantly clueless people?

(539 posts)Of course it's only my opinion, but I always thought that anyone claiming to be an 'undecided' - especially as we come within a month of the (any) election - is using that label to get attention.
NPR has been marching out 'undecideds' for months in interviews, and if you listen to the interview it's clear that they're supporting lardass.

(58,785 posts)to expend energy on politics. Studies find those claiming to be "undecided" are mostly nonvoters and that the biggest reason for those who don't vote is indifference. Personality reasons. Democracy's duds.
A good number these days are conservatives who don't want people to know they'll vote for Trump -- especially young people and on college campuses. Some passive-aggressive types refuse out of generalized spite and resentment. And so on.
Of course, you're right that there are some whackjobs who can imagine being "undecided" sounds sophisticated and makes them important. "They care about me!" Most won't vote.
What most "undecides" and nonvoters do care about, of course, is their own self image and how others see them. About 8% say they did vote to appear respectable. Unfortunately, most prefer hypocritical ego-protecting excuses. Facile coverups from tens of millions are way more than enough to endow their most common excuses for profound ignorance and fecklessness with fake validity, even seem cynically sophisticated and conventionally wise. At least to them.
You know: '"They're" all corrupt.' "There's no one worth voting for." "It doesn't make any difference anyway. Nothing changes." "Politicians don't care about people like me." "Democrats are really just the same as Republicans."

(82,849 posts)I tend to tune them out, as well. But every now and then I'll listen as an exercise in what needs to be worked on. For example, there was an "undecided" woman who was sad that Trump kept interrupting everyone at the debate, but she was also disappointed that Biden copied Trump's tactics.
Were I to converse with this woman, I'd ask her what she wished Biden would have done after it became apparent that Trump was going to persist in going all shoutycrackers. Should he have just sat timidly by for Trump to blow himself out, hoping that it wouldn't take the whole 90 minutes? What should Biden have done, if not assert himself to reclaim his fair share of the time?
Some of these undecideds (and I emphasize "some" ) are simply passive receptacles, regurgitating what they've heard or passing along their knee-jerk reactions: "Trump's yelling and interrupting; I don't like that. But look at Biden! He's yelling and interrupting Trump's interruption. I don't like that, either. Both sides." So okay, Ms. Undecided, you didn't like Biden copying Trump's tactics. What should he have done?

(292 posts)with them as well.
There are only two possibilities to explain them in my opinion.
The ones who are genuinely undecided would have to be low information voters who don't pay much attention to politics until it's time to vote. In that case why would I want to listen to the inane ramblings of someone who doesn't know anything?
And the only other possibility is that they are just pretending to be undecided. In which case why would I want to listen to a liar?

(3,131 posts)Many just dont want to admit they are voting for trump. The truly undecided are difficult in any circumstances
They are the people who cant decide what to do in any situation but will complain about the choice.
Do you want to see a movie? No
Do you want to go eat? No.
Do you want to go for a walk. No.
Do you want to go bowling. No.
Do you want to go to a club. No.

(2,336 posts)tRump his destroyed this country and probably our government (though it was already heading that way), and now is trying to destroy the middle class. I don't get the end game at all. Why would anyone want tens of millions in poverty? How does that help enrich them?
I cannot understand how any sane person would not be able to decide between the most evil, vile monster we've ever seen and the most respectful, good & honest person. How is that so difficult? Thinking it's because of the lies and falsehoods put out against Biden but seriously, does no one put on their BS glasses any more? How do they never become skeptical? Just believing whatever is spewed out on your screen is pretty ignorant.
