Many English words and phrases can have multiple meanings. It's messy that way, because it has contributions from a lot of different languages and cultures, just like our country. And like our country, that's one of its strengths.

IMHO, Obama's use of "stand by" refers to being a passive spectator, not doing anything to make a situation better. Trump's use of "stand by" refers to being prepared to take action as soon as a situation warrants, or as soon as a Dear Leader tells you to.

That's pretty damning evidence there.

I mean, other than the fact that Obama isn't running right now.

And the fact that it wasn't directed towards a violent, racist group.

And the other fact that it was an inspirational statement to bring people together instead of tear them apart.


But other than all of that....
