General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat does happens if Trump dies or withdraws before Nov 3? I'm talking here...
... about the election. The GOP would have no candidate. A couple of replies in this thread suggest that the GOP would appoint a new candidate. But would all ballots have to be re-printed and re-distributed? Will early votes for Trump turn into votes for "the GOP?"

So election still goes on.

(14,400 posts)He would likely have to pick a VP before the election but the election would go on.
The parties have rules where the national committees would meet and pick a new person. It would not go to the primary process in this case. They don't have to pick the current VP nominee but I'd be surprised if they didn't. Especially with an incumbant.

(5,184 posts)Pence selects a Vice President, who must then be confirmed by both the Senate AND the House. If the House Dems don't confirm, and the office remains empty, Pence can pardon everyone, except himself.

(4,131 posts)If Trump dies the day before the election and Trump/Pence ticket wins the election, Pence would become president and would name a vice president that would have to be approved by both houses of congress.

(13,783 posts)... almost all talking heads mention only obesity. What? No high blood pressure? I suppose we'd know if he had Type II diabetes.

Presumably, the VP candidate moves up and picks a running mate, I guess. It would be up to the party.

(2,337 posts)We all know they don't want Pence or they'd have gone for the impeachment when they had the chance, so who knows? But, there is procedure, so no need to panic (for dems).

(4,866 posts)Wonder if the various state constitutions have provisions. If there is no way to get another candidate on the ballot and they have no provision to replace, who knows.. There is no US Constitution based solution to my knowledge.

(94,729 posts)...Trump would be on the ballot but effectively it would be the same.

(1,584 posts)So no change to ballots. Those electors will be free to vote for a replacement in any situation that requires it (death, resignation, impeachment, etc.).
