I'm about as far from a vegetarian as you can get, however I'm very well aware of the benefits of going vegetarian. This asshole's argument seems to be that since there are so many cows and chickens, that they're doing just dandy. Never mind the fact that they live utterly miserable existences, the fact that there are so many of them means that they're doing better than we are.

And this asshole probably thinks that his stupid little diatribe makes him look intelligent. He couldn't be more wrong.

See this response to AA's "Feminism sucks" video:

http://ljarvz.tumblr.com/post/593558678/the-amazing-atheist-feminism-sucks-first-off

Also on Reddit he has threatened people with rape threats:

http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2012/02/08/the-not-so-amazing-atheist-self-immolates/
http://freethoughtblogs.com/blaghag/2012/02/scratch-the-amazing-atheist-off-your-list-too/

Unfortunately this Amazing Atheist guy has popularized anti feminist bullshit among the young people. Just try to sit thru his "Tumblr Feminists" rant where he characterizes his reaction to feminist tumblr blogs as "WHY AM I WHITE? WHY AM I MALE?" and complains that those tumblr bloggers don't pay enough attention to "real" issues like third world genocide. He also goes in defense of Daniel Tosh's "Wouldn't it be funny if that girl got raped by like, 5 guys right now?"

What an idiot. Vegetarians should use that as a recruitment video, I'd imagine they'd get an awful lot of converts that way.

He said something along the lines of "fuck no". In some ways he's right. Commercially raised pigs, cows, and chickens would be complete failures if set free. They're bred to be meat and not for survival. It's a disgusting industry and a profoundly detrimental force for the environment. If he hadn't taken a bite, I might have thought he actually was a vegetarian just spoofing the omnivores, although I must admit that I've known a lot of people who were damn close to strictly carnivorous.

This simpleton's argument is based solely on population numbers. Somehow animals bred for short, brutal lives are "better off" simply because there's more of them. According to this fat moron, billions of suffering animals should thank us for saving them from the horrors of living in equilibrium with their environments. Of course no awareness or acknowledgment that we are literally killing ourselves and the planet in the process. What a fucking tool.

and that might be true if the animals hadn't been bred for qualities that are useful to meat eaters but not useful to the animal.

Chickens have been bred with such enormous breasts that they're falling over, unable to walk properly by the time they're slaughtered. It's monoculture, and should they escape captivity, there are no wild populations to mate with to get back to being real, non grotesque chickens.

Cattle are bred so they have more meat and run less efficiently or produce more milk and have udders that practically drag the ground. Sheep have been bred for docility as much for wool quality and are now far too dumb to survive on their own.

Absent humans, these "successful" animals would die out in a generation or two and that doesn't look like success to me.

This guy has made a few good, thought provoking tapes. This is simply not one of them because first, it's a losing battle to criticize anyone else's food choices and second, he just didn't think things through too clearly.

I'd have no problem if the guy's message was "I dig meat, so sue me". But if your aim is to make vegetarians/vegans look foolish, you'd better have a more cogent argument than that silly crap.

beck. just embarrassing to watch because of the ignorance and stupidity, magnified by arrogance . Pigs and chickens, etc..are confined and made to reproduce so that their offspring can be tortured and killed for food. Factory farming, which is where most people get their carrion, is torture from beginning to end. Pigs are intelligent creatures not dissimilar to dogs and cats. You can't call yourself an animal lover while still contracting for the torture and misery of other animals for food that is not good for you. Those lovable attributes that you see in your dogs and cats exist in other animals too. Animals by the millions are tortured each day here in america and if you buy the carrion, they are doing it for you, doing it at your command. So enjoy your pets, but don't call yourself any kind of advocate for animals unless you are boycotting cruelty by voting with your food dollars.
