President Donald Trump for months has been making unsubstantiated statements about the potential for “massive fraud” as millions of Americans are expected to cast their ballots by mail ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

But the president’s frequent claims don’t jibe with reality in Illinois, which for a decade has allowed any voter to request a mail-in ballot without having to explain why they can’t show up to the polls on Election Day. The percentage of ballots cast by mail has been on the rise since 2010 without any widespread problems, election officials say.

“We have had extensive, extensive experience with vote by mail, and we just don’t have the problems that some other sources are relating,” Chicago Board of Elections Chairwoman Marisel Hernandez said.

What’s different in this election is the record-shattering number of voters in Chicago and across the state requesting mail-in ballots because of the coronavirus pandemic.

60 year resident of Illinois and near 50 years of voting, I have seen any encumbrances for out right to vote ever. Even here downstate Illinois (any area outside of Chicago), never had issues. Of course trump is telegraphing his people to impede and why I will be an official poll watcher
