in other words, there is no answer. It's up to the state and most states don't have provisions. I wonder how many will pass laws to take care of a candidate dying before an election? Or after the electors meet? The only thing that seems clear is if he dies after the election has been certified in congress on Jan. 6. Then Pence is sworn in as prez. All the rest is an open question.

If trump goes to hell in the near future, there won't be any ability to change ballots since many have already been mailed out and even returned.

So the ticket is what they will go with. Pence could assume the role of pres candidate at any time, but trumps name will still appear on the ballot.

After that, if pence also goes to the land of beezlebub, or simply decides not to run, then things get interesting. It will fall to a warren of state laws, each different.

Presumably any electors won by the trump pence ticket would still be awarded, and they would vote for whomever the gop told them to if state law permitted it.

It would be a clusterfuck for sure. But really, if both candidates were off the ticket for whatever reason, there is virtually no chance that ticket would win this round. Biden and Harris are too strong, and the gop is too weak. What advantage they have for trump being an illegal monarch in power would fall away.

The people who would turn out and vote would just stay home. Why bother. A good attitude for any gop supporter these days.
