17. We're doing okay, same thing, and it has gotten really old, as I'm sure it has for you...

I accepted my sister in law’s invite to come over for my birthday — just us two couples. For me it was a big deal, as up until then I kept wearing my mask with them, because their lives are so much more outer-directed than mine. It did me no end of good to have a social evening.

Woke up today with such a haze, smelling of smoke and ozone. We thought maybe one of the fires in Southern California (or a new one, God forbid) had turned our way, so finally checked the Air Quality website and found out that because the wind stopped overnight, the ozone and a fair amount of smoke had settled around us, and that it would move on in a day or so. So I took their advice and shut the house up, and since I kept coughing I took a puff on my inhaler and was fine the rest of the day.

Thanks for asking. My country has seemingly gone nuts, but you know that. Take good care of yourself.

9. It has to do with Trump resigning, Pence becomes POTUS, appoints Ivanka as VP and then resigns.

The fly in the ointment is that the President only nominates the VP in the case of a vacancy - they have to be confirmed by BOTH houses of Congress. This actually happened when Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973. Nixon nominated Gerald Ford and Ford was confirmed by the House and Senate. Then Ford became President when Nixon resigned. But Ford was a compromise candidate who had some bipartisan appeal. That would not be true of Ivanka. She is a divisive figure and you can be sure a majority of the House would never vote for her. This was all proposed by someone who does not understand our system of filling VP vacancies.
