Arctic Expeditions Dress Code Raises Concerns About Sexism in ScienceThe scientific institute leading the trip denied that its policy had been applied to a specific sex, saying, Women and men participate in our polar expeditions as equals.
-------------------
About two weeks into a six-week mission, leaders aboard the Fedorov brought up a strict dress-code policy to journalists, students and scientists on board, Ms. Harvey said. The next day, she said, in a smaller meeting with other journalists, it was explained that, as a safety issue, leggings, very tightfitting clothing, short shorts and crop tops were not permitted.
The woman holding the meeting was careful not to come right out and connect the dots, Ms. Harvey said. She did not say, We are concerned that the men on board this ship will harass you if you dress a certain way, but she pointed out repeatedly there were a lot of men aboard this ship.
The immediate reaction to our meeting was sort of shock and disbelief, Ms. Harvey said, adding that there was widespread resentment and some alarm on the ship. After the meetings, women on the ship changed the way they dressed, she said, choosing to wear jeans and other loosefitting clothing.
The implication that many people took from those meetings was that women should change the way they dress in order to manage the behavior of men aboard the ship, she said. She later discovered in her own reporting that there was an incident of sexual harassment on the ship, she said.

OP
Sounds like shipboard sexism, not "sexism in science". Neither is good.

Oh my! Does this mean that even scientists aren't immune to the brain's hard-wiring that

Typical of society telling women to behave differently in order to control men.

You are obviously quoting an article, unless you are Ms. Harvey.
Are you Ms. Harvey?
Don't you think you should provide the link and the publication and the date?
Or are you claiming credit for having written this?
It's not a simple typo to omit all that important stuff.
It helps us judge credibility, as just one point.

evolution has provided to demand that humans show an overriding interest in all things related
to gender differences and sexual matters? asking for a friend

Rather than insisting that men behave themselves appropriately, society tells women that they shouldn't do things.
Reminds me of the school dress codes back in the early 60s when I was in high school.
To Men: Behave yourselves. Don't just tell women how to dress.
