(3,491 posts)event either supported financially by Rethuglican groups, or just another Rethuglican lie. Way too convenient with a month to go.

If you were constantly being duped, wouldn't you eventually catch on?

(884 posts)Yes, you would eventually catch on, but...
ONLY if you are paying attention to, and acknowledging, objective reality.
That's what's required to be able to spot the deception.
For me, that came in the form of spending a lot of time listening to NPR as I sat in DC metro area traffic in my early 20's, and thus gained enough exposure to the day-to-day workings of Congress for me to be ABLE to recognize exactly what Republican's "flip-flop" attack against John Kerry over voting for and against a supplemental troop increase bill was.
For the Democratic-sponsored version that funded it by repealing the Bush tax cuts and against the Republican-sponsored version funding it by more off-books deficit spending. Or, you, know, DOING HIS JOB.
That, for me, was a large part of what made the difference between merely disagreeing with their political agenda and opposing them because they are evil lying bastards, but it also highlighted for me a failing of our educational system. I had what passed for a first-class education, and understood the basic premise of how government works (or so I thought), but it took regular immersion in its day-to-day workings to be well-informed enough to recognize what is and isn't the normal conduct of governance.
