Some Twit twitted that he had tested positive as a joke, and people are not reading the entire tweet to see that it is satire.
Please do not post stuff like that here with misleading headlines.
Thank you.

(146,333 posts)and run to post it on DU, where others also do not bother to read the tweet. That's always a risk of posting satire here. I've learned to make my satirical posts obvious by signalling that they are satire.
People often only read the post title.

(146,333 posts)It's unfortunate that subtle satire doesn't work on Internet discussion forums. The art of satire is to present humor as something that might be true, but isn't. Various techniques can be used to signal that a piece of writing is satire. However, on the Internet, there are too many people who don't bother to read things closely and therefore miss the signals.
Many DUers, for example, read only the title of a post and immediately reply to the post without reading it or reading any other posts in a thread.
That's unfortunate for those who use satire as a means of communication. Satire online has to be blunt and its signals must be even blunter, sadly.

(10,014 posts)That's the problem, not the original one sentence tweet.
There are no excuses for people reacting to something they haven't even read.
MineralMan
(146,333 posts)In addition, if someone posts a tweet here, many DUers cannot see the tweet itself, and only see the post title. So, they cannot read the entire post.
Life is complicated. Thinking before posting is hard.

(146,333 posts)I post original satirical posts here occasionally, myself. However, I have learned that I must signal the readers that my post is satire very obviously to avoid confusing people who only read post titles and then instantly react.
So, all of my satirical post titles start with the word, BROKEN, and end with the sarcasm smilie
That has ended the criticism from people who do not bother to read posts closely.
