Unless their masks have been fit tested, there is even more risk. I hope that someday we will know the truth of this toll. Horrendous and malicious.

And realistically they were not going to call security and detain him. It's a military hospital, and if those doctors are military officers they are not going to be manhandling and restraining the CinC to keep him from going for a car ride. I agree with the principle, but it wouldn't happen.

...they should resign if they were forced. Don't just fold like good hostages, it's a hospital, damnit.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, about that stunt showed strength or courage or leadership.

...they have to be wondering how he gets away with this in the U.S. where they thought the people ruled.

Not like some of their own countries. This must be dismaying to them.

10. People of the world need to rethink what they think about America then.

After the response to Katrina, the headlines claimed America has been exposed. The poverty, the racism, how little prepared we are, and how little we seem to care about some people and some cities. Anything change? Anything at all?

Then torture, extraordinary rendition. The Patriot Act, Homeland Security, GTMO, and the list goes on.

Briefly, all too briefly, Obama.

Then Trump. Mister "I Alone" that has done nothing but alienate America from her allies.

Then more police brutality against African-Americans. More and more deaths. White supremacy given the blessing of the President.

Paper towels to P.R..

A pandemic that has been ignored more or less. Over 200k dead and the number continues to rise.

Children in cages. Some who will never see their parents again. Some abused, physically and sexually. Reports of forced sterilization in detention.

And ever so much more.

We tell the world we're the democracy people. A government of, by, for the people. We tell the world we're this, we're that, and all of it good - but then something bad happens that exposes what lies beneath.

Of course it all reflects back on us as citizens.

Why wouldn't it?

It isn't fair in some ways. In some ways, it is fair. Because the image we project to the world isn't enough to hide the ugly underbelly.

We've got problems. Big ones. No use in pretending we don't.

13. well, pretending?

c'mon.

I'm always going to be optimistic about our nation. It's the reason I stay engaged.

I don't know why I have to declare this, but yes we do have problems. But we also still have the capacity to change, we have stood up in the past, and we'll make progress in the future.

15. A lot of people pretend we don't have major problems. I wasn't saying you did.

Was simply stating there is no point in pretending we don't have problems. I know you know we have problems.

You didn't have to declare it. There was no demand or requirement to do so.

I was commenting on why the people of the world need to rethink their view of America if they are surprised by what is happening in America or why we don't seem able to do something about it.

Yes, we have the capacity to change and we will see progress in the future. I believe both.

Hopefully, more foundational than cosmetic. The kind people talk about when they say things like no more band aids but actual solutions.

Garland was a revelation for... I won't say who, and we've yet to have the chance to take another look at the things you listed from a majority position. We're almost there...

bottom line is, I don't know.

I do what I can with what I have. After that, I don't know.

Hopes and desires aside, I don't know.

in the sense that they go around spewing toxic lies, deceptions and bullshit every single day.

That is a disease in America that should be treated as a pandemic, along with COVID-19.......

I would submit that the damage they've done in the past few decades is far worse than this virus will achieve.
