Dexamethasone can cause frank mania, or more severe depressive states. Added to the risk of COVID related neuropsychiatric symptoms/severe delirium the press ought to be asking the medical team how they are formally monitoring his mental status @maggieNYT @jonathanvswan

This is why they said he might be discharged tomorrow. Hes watching and its to placate him so he doesnt refuse treatment today. This tells me how it is going. I serve chronically mentally ill folks for a living. I wish his team much luck.

You do not have the right to infect others. You are the President of the United States and you owe us honesty and safety.

(9,999 posts)is effecting his mental state. Not being facetious - how would we know how this adds to his already compromised mental state? I remember Chris Cuomo talk about having hallucinations.

(5,478 posts)that they probably could have just told him he already did his little Covid-Convoy earlier today and his supporters loved it, and then sent him back to his little play office to happily scribble on more paper.

(25,263 posts)If his condition gets worse in the next day or two - they're going to shoulder the blame for indulging him and his little stupid antics.
If in fact Trump is discharged tomorrow and he has a Covid crisis back in the WH - the optics of him being Medivac'd back to Walter Reed will really look bad for him.

(82,849 posts)Maybe they don't have the professional confidence to overrule the president. They might also have been recruited for the medical team for precisely that reason.
And, should the president take a turn for the worse in the coming hours or days (God forbid), you can bet that the Republicans will blame everything under the sun except Trump's irresponsible behavior. If any Democrats weigh in on Trump's selfishness, Republicans will demand an apology for an non-existent inference that Trump is in some part responsible for his own declining health.

Im sure some of them are secretly hoping letting him leave will assure he gets sicker and maybe more willing to comply. I feel sorry for the docs. I feel sorry for anyone who is forced to deal with him. Those who willingly go along and support him all deserve to get sick themselves. At a minimum.

(1,671 posts)suffered worsening dementia. My mother-in-law was hospitalized for several months prior to her death and my father-in-law wreaked havoc at the hospital. He demanded she be discharged because she wasn't getting good care and he could take better care of her at home. My father-in-law couldn't take care of a pet rock! He just wanted what he was used to having all of the nearly 60 years of their marriage...his live-in caretaker. He couldn't comprehend that she was unable to be that anymore.
I can see Trumpie's delusional strong-man identity he created for himself being so ingrained that he's incapable of accepting any evidence to the contrary. Woe be to any staff member (medical, White House etc.) that has to force him to accept reality. That's why it's so bad he surrounded himself with Yes-(wo)men and enablers.
We're screwed until he's voted out AND 6-feet under.

With a president who's medication could push him into mentally unstable states this doesn't seem to be the best idea in the world.

I feel like its a miracle just that he hasn't done it and I think the reason why is because most bullies are really paper tigers and cowards. He is scared to start a war thank god!
