shoot em in the leg, or the foot, or with non-lethal ammo, or whatever . . . you don't have to kill every time you fire your weapon . . .

there's a huge hole in the middle of the story missing here that body cams should've filled but we'll just trust the cops cause they've not had a summer of beating the fuck out of everything moving
