I know we have a lot going on right now with tRump creating his usual chaos, diversion and distract tactics. However, there is a weather situation developing south of the Gulf Coast states that bears watching. Tropical Storm Delta is forecast to develop further into a hurricane in a few days and take aim at the northern Gulf Coast. Where I live is in the cone. To say were a bit unsettled grossly understated how we really feel.
We just went through Hurricane Sally on the anniversary of Hurricane Ivan (2004). Our town is still picking up the pieces and trying to restore order. Many other communities across the coast are doing the same. Our roof came through Sally without too many lost shingles and only one area leaking. Our insurance company will most likely give us a pittance of what it will take to restore it to good condition. The adjuster thinks we need a roof but prepared us for another answer from the insurance company. Getting ANY kind of good repair made before Delta hits is impossible since all roofers are booked up for months. Our conclusion regarding home owners insurance is, that despite paying thousands in premiums, it is mainly good for catastrophic loss. Anything less than devastating losses will be covered by us, the home owners. We own our home, so we dont even have a mortgage company to pressure the insurance company to cough up more to fix the damage.
I guess Im just venting a little and reminding the dear readers here that there are other issues going on besides tRump losing whatever is left of his marbles. Thanks for reading this far. 🥰

Which is what fuels hurricanes.

(5,810 posts)3. Yep. We know too well that things are not looking real good for any Gulf Coast
Community that gets hit by Delta. It is possible the storm does not materialize into a bad hurricane. However, the Hurricane Center does not seem to be playing up that angle. Someplace along the Gulf Coast will be dealing with it in the next week.

We are saturated here already. I dont wish any storms in the Gulf but if theyre gonna happen, I hope the north Gulf gets a break. A really tough season for them

Many communities along the Gulf Coast need a break. Trees that didnt come down in Sally are now weakened. We still have limbs dangling from a few trees in our yard. Weve gotten some down but others will require tree service who are booked up. Also roofs are weakened, like ours. Our neighbor observed shingles on our roof literally flapping in the hurricane winds of Sally. Most didnt blow off but are no longer sealed due to dirt and debris under them. And our insurance company thinks that is ok. Barring a miracle, they will offer a bucket of tar with labor supplied by my 71 year old husband to repair the roof. So yes, we need a break, along with thousands of others who lost much, much more.

There is so much going on with the prez and that whole mess, it is easy to lose sight of other disasters in the making. I hope everyone on the Gulf Coast is taking notice and thinking about what they need to do if Delta heads their way. I know we are. Our recent experience with Sally revealed we were a little under prepared. (Not enough yard prep and fuel for camp stove.) But were working to rectify that ASAP.

We need to focus on more than the Reckless ReTHUGs.
Stay safe - we have heavy rains right now associated with Delta
