I posted yesterday about being unable to seal the inner envelope of my ballot.

The pre-loaded adhesive just wouldn't seal. I went to tape it instead, and I thought better of it.

I called my Board of Elections today for advice. A young man answered the phone, and his first response was that he would have to send me a new ballot, because if I taped it, the ballot may appear to be tampered with. He then thought about it and asked if I could hold while he consulted someone more senior.

When he came back to the phone, he said that yes, I could absolutely tape it to seal it. He said that if I was uncomfortable with that, then to sign my name across the tape. In any case, he said that they would contact me if there was any problem with the ballot, and they would attempt to resolve it.

Also, he said I could either track my ballot online, or just give them a call to check on it's status.

I'm just posting this in case anyone else runs into the same problem. I would however, call your local Election Commission first before taping it, just to make sure. A glue stick is the preferred solution, but I do not have any in the house.

My ballot is on the way in the mail, and I will begin checking the status of it this week.

A tad if glue or paste might have been better than obvious tape. sinkingfeeling Oct 2020 #7

I was afraid of messing it up lol. Then I get to the last step and it didn't seal! The instructions just said to be sure to seal the inner envelope, not the manner in which it should be sealed....but I said ehhhh, I better call.

I'm glad I did!

I would think before taping it shut and then maybe on the other side over the tape.
