(65,179 posts)Repukes had plenty of chances to pass aid. We compromised more than they did and they still arent happy.
This guy, if possible, is even more bonkers on his meds.

He would have been disgusted by Trump's signature on it.

(6,976 posts)Lord God, Your Dad passed pre-stimulus. I'm so sorry for that, and for your Dad's loss
I have 3 friends in their early 70's who still haven't gotten their stimulus checks yet either. Luckily, all have good familial support systems around them.
(That crazy man's crazy signature scrawled on those stimulus checks 🤮 .

(19,204 posts)to send any money to BLUE STATES to cover the costs of keeping up with the corona virus. He doesn't mind making sure red states get all the money they need, but he wants to bankrupt blue states. What the fucking ignoramus doesn't understand is, without the tax dollars from the BLUE STATES, there ARE NO red states!
Fuck off, Donnie. you definitely are, "THE SHART OF THE DEAL!

(36,747 posts)we need a Federal Transfer Payment Equalization Act.
The act would not allow states to receive more money from the federal government than what they send in revenue.
That will force certain taker states to raise their state and local taxes, evening out the playing field. States like AL, TN, FL, KY etc.

i.e.... people who really need it
i'm working right now and have been lucky enough to do so all year. i don't need a check. send more money to people who need it more.

(182,861 posts)We dont need it. I like more money but there are people who need it a lot more than we do.
He called off negotiations and now hes tweeted twice about trying to restart it - this and an airline/PPP tweet. He must realize how bad he screwed up.

(7,646 posts)I watched this live earlier today and it broke my heart. I'm sure there's probably hundreds of families struggling and on the verge of being homeless because of the irresponsible mishandling of the pandemic.
I wish that I was in the financial position to help families that are in these awful situations. I noticed the video cut off right before it stated how to help.

(65,179 posts)The pandemic has caused a ton of hardship. Add social security recipients to the list.
But hes forgetting about the whole passing it process during COVID absences and when they are focusing on their extremist nominee. No way it goes out immediately.

(3,635 posts)Trump sees 'sending people money' as means to save his failing campaign.
Even though such relief packages are Dem/left policy, Trump and Repubs will take all the credit for it.
I suspect Trump's approval rating on the economy is still good at least in part from the Cares Act which he took credit for. I doubt most people credit the Dems/Pelosi for it.
Dems should not pass anything - we must get rid of Trump and McConnell and giving them a 'win' now could alter the dynamics of the race.
The optics of the GOP holding Senate hearings for Barrett while there is no relief will kill them further at the polls - what we need.

(182,861 posts)I get the politics but people really need this money. Nancy has a plan Im sure.

(3,635 posts)Sending out money close to the election could shift undecideds in his direction. He will put his name on anything, it doesn't matter what is in any 'agreement' he'd do it anyway. If we were to do a poll I would guess the public credits him with the Cares Act more than Dems. I could be wrong about this but to me that's part of the reason (in addition to juicing the stock market via the Fed) for his still good approval rating on the economy whereas all of his other approvals have cratered.
People do need the money but we need Trump/Mitch gone more than anything; after that we can pass as much stimulus as we want and make it retroactive.
chriscan64
(1,789 posts)That's why there were negotiations in the first place. They could have passed a cheap bill and blamed us for holding it up in the House. This $1200 pipe dream would be passed by Democrats in the House and Senate and have Trump's name on the checks like he did something. For someone at lunch time who didn't want to negotiate until after the election, he seems to want to play now. Aren't you supposed to wait for your rival to move when you pull the "walk away from the table" move?

(3,635 posts)and (unfortunately) they often are the ones to decide elections. They also tend to be low-info voters who don't vote on policy or ideology but 'who is doing things for me' and a fat check sent to them just before the election could go a long way to getting their vote.
jorgevlorgan
(8,316 posts)You don't need a bill for that to happen. That is, if he isn't actually completely broke.
