Hundreds show up to vote early in Summit County (OH)

Even a health crisis couldn't stop John Doll from trying to cast his ballot on the first day of early voting in Ohio.

Doll, 67, of Akron arrived at the Summit County Early Voting Center at 500 Grant St. in Akron shortly after 7 on Tuesday morning — an hour before voting started.

While waiting nearly two hours in line under a white tent in front of the building, Doll — a diabetic with severe Parkinson’s disease who has had heart surgery — became dizzy and collapsed onto the ground. As fellow voters and poll workers rushed to his side and called an ambulance, Doll told them that he wasn’t going anywhere.

“No, I am not leaving until I vote,” Doll insisted.

He sat in a chair outside of the vote center as his condition stabilized, and he refused to enter the ambulance that had come to his aid. Onlookers clapped and cheered Doll when paramedics left his side.

I was disappointed. (I just checked - hoping that voting hours ended at 4 PM, but it's 5 PM )

Glad to see it was crowded earlier! (I was off helping create new lawyers - bar exam today, finally!)
