TX-21: Wendy Davis raises $3.4M in 3rd quarter

Democrat Wendy Davis reported raising $3.4 million in July, August and September, her best fundraising quarter yet in her bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican from Hays County.

Davis, a former state senator and gubernatorial candidate, has raised nearly $7.9 million this cycle.

The average donation to Davis’ campaign last quarter was $67, according to her campaign.

“Seeing thousands of people support our campaign with small dollar donations is indicative of who’s fueling our campaign and our agenda,” Davis said in a statement Tuesday. “I’m in this race to fight for Texans, not a political party or corporate special interests like my opponent.”

Roy’s campaign hasn’t said how much he raised in the third quarter and didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Davis outpaced Roy in the second quarter, raising $1.4 million compared to Roy’s $544,407.

Both campaigns must report their third-quarter fundraising totals to the Federal Election Commission by Oct. 15. Often, campaigns with impressive numbers self-report before the deadline.
