Of course talk about the important issues of police brutality and racism but also broaden to address other issues that affect the entire population.
Would love to hear her talk about the US economy & business issues, climate change, environmental issues. We must reach out to broaden coalition.

I don't know where you came up with the notion that she's has some singular focus on 'police brutality and racism.' Kamala Harris is one of the most comprehensive and encompassing legislators in the body. Check her record and check her speeches.

(86,005 posts)...and have to deal with such limiting expectations for this black woman.
There's really no excuse for assuming she'd even consider pigeonholing herself with issues close to her personal interests. As attorney general she oversaw justice and safety for ALL California residents; prosecution of predatory banks, sexual assault, homicide, environmental protection, school safety, police accountability...
There are also the concerns and initiatives she's pursued as a U.S. Senator. It's not an insignificant effort, and there's an extensive record which is easily accessible.
There's no excuse at all.
Also, neither response was delivered with any anger at all, despite your view of my 'tone.'

(42,770 posts)prefaced by saying I had only heard Harris in interviews a handful of times and it was all I heard her talk about. Assume our goal was getting the middle and getting rid of the monster?
Work from home and have news on 24/7 in background. In my mind, she could have been a man, she could be purple - it wouldn't matter. It was all I had ever heard her talk about. I admit, I have never sought out position papers or additional info since she wasn't my first choice. But if I, a Dem with Dem in my DNA hadn't, what middle of the road schmuck had?
I know many in the business world (of which there are millions of humans affiliated with in some way..bad move imho for Dems to disparage big banks without thinking about this) who would be worried if there wasn't more umph given other issues like the economy. And not just what to do to help people (of course paramount)...but what are you going to do to keep things churning - macro level.
What you made me realize is that there is a huge gap between what non-minority Dems think and feel and what minorites feel. I hope there comes a day when it will be realized that all Dems + plus good minded people have already completely and automatically assimilated their pain and evolved to the point where it's a complete given. And things can be discussed without reprisal or need for wordsmithing.

(68,632 posts)will only focus on racism, police etc. She will focus on questions that are asked of her...it is a debate after all. I have not read that this debate will focus on crime or the police or protests although there be a questions I suppose.

(1,737 posts)After all, isn't she running to be VP for all? Have you ever listened to Kamala? A black person can speak about broader issues you know. We are not so dense. This post just seems so stereotypical to me.

(1,737 posts)Sometimes we have to be mindful of the impact of our words. Being dismissive will not change the feeling a sentiment like what was expressed in the OP can evoke. Why would anyone think she would only speak about black issues? I never heard anyone make that request of Biden.

I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings in a million years. But this is a political forum isn't it? Big picture thinking, analysis?

Snip-"Exclusive: Kamala Harris to introduce comprehensive environmental justice bill in Senate
By Yvette Cabrera on Jul 30, 2020
Fifteen years ago, Kamala Harris San Franciscos District Attorney at the time created an environmental justice unit in her office. The goal was to go after the perpetrators of environmental crimes that were hurting some of the citys poorest residents.
The state attorney generals office had emphasized the need for state and local law enforcement to step up because of a void left by federal authorities in the Bush administration who were busy rolling back environmental protections. One of the best tools out there to go after polluters is to go after them on a criminal basis, a spokesperson for thenState Attorney General Bill Lockyer told SFGate in 2005. Across the country, communities burdened by pollution and contamination have been calling for that type of accountability at the federal level for decades."

(25,592 posts)Harris is often asked about police brutality and racism in interviews because of her career as a prosecutor. That's her area of expertise.
This comes off as an "identity politics" accusation. The myth that Democrats have no progressive economic or environmental policies and only care about social justice.
