https://www.rawstory.com/2020/10/widespread-shock-as-completely-inadequate-vp-debate-stage-is-revealed-is-this-some-kind-of-a-joke/The moderator has no protection other than distance and the screens are awfully small.
Someone said that the cashiers at Costco have better protection.

(65,134 posts)This is a false impression that won't go away.
Masks protect the wearer from an infected person, unmasked, around 60%, but provide a reduction in viral load in well over 90% of the time.
If masks were only 30% effective to the wearer, the medical profession would be in far worse condition than they are.
In a hospital, it's possible that 1 in 10 people a nurse, NP, PA, or doctor see in a day are infected. At 30% effectiveness, nearly everybody working there would be infected in 10 days to 2 weeks.
Wearing a mask certainly does protect others, and that's a good thing. But, it also protects us when we wear them.

(104 posts)I hate that this debate is happening. I see no upside for this or any other in-person debate between the Trump and Biden camps. They've already shown they can't be trusted. With the technology available at our disposal, we should be doing these virtually.

(42,862 posts)... but I think that in addition to the flimsy plexiglass, there should be a floor-fan aimed at each desk. Just a gentle cooling breeze to help with the heat of the studio lights (AND to blow-back any covid droplets from Pence.)
