Isn't it?

(1,654 posts)The bible said render to Ceasar. It didn't say the church would rule Ceasar. I guess times have changed.

(51,626 posts)He's a funny guy. When you donate you can even specify where you would like your donation to go...I preferred more TV ads to spread the word. I also left money for them in my trust, like some people leave money to a church.

(9,771 posts)(I watch all shows on DVR so I can skip ads, so I'd have missed him on the ads.) And didn't know this was a cause in which he was involved. I like him even better now!
I'm not able to give away much money these days, and what little I'm donating right now is going almost entirely to Dem candidates. But l'll put this group on my list for one of the months after this November.

(9,771 posts)Reminds me of when I (not for the first time) was telling my mom how I didn't believe in God and she said, alarmed, "Aren't you afraid God will strike you down for saying that?"
As you might imagine, her question both confused and annoyed me. I replied, "Um, no. How could I be afraid of being harmed by an entity I don't believe exists?"

(51,626 posts)had been raised as Catholics, myself included.
My sister and I were given a choice whether or not to attend CCD on Sat AM. We didn't have to think about it for a second. Who wants to get up early on Sat and Sunday after a week of getting up early for school? No brainer. Mom took us to church on some special Sundays, Dad never went. None of us believe in God but my mom wanted us to have the choice.
I was riduculed by my friends but I didn't care. I was glad to be chruch free. I wouldn't say the "God" part of the school's daily pledge to the flag either.

(9,771 posts)teaching my CCD class got very angry at my genuine questions.
Later, when I was in line for communion one Sunday & got a feeling of looking down at myself and seeing someone working really hard at pretending to believe, I knew for sure I was an outcast.

(51,626 posts)I would suck on mine to make it last longer. A few years ago I checked out the purchasing of the wafers on-line and I did order some. Yummy! I used some in place of chips for and the dip I brought to a family gathering Easter (I chose Easter on purpose). They liked the idea and ate them all. I am glad I don't believe in Hell.

(9,771 posts)My husband did get a chuckle out of my very Catholic dad with this joke on the subject.
Husband: Did you hear about the new, low-fat communion wafer the Vatican approved?
Dad: No.
Husband: Yeah, it's called, I Can't Believe its not Jesus.
🙃
OK, well, its clear I've stayed up way past my bedtime, so with that I will say good night (morning)!
