Johnson & Johnson pauses vaccine trial due to unexplained illness

BREAKING: Johnson & Johnson’s #COVID19 vaccine trial of 60,000 has been suddenly paused due to a new unexplained illness. Study enrollment website also frozen while DSMB (data safety monitoring board) reviews. to be updated.

but it's very good news that they are not rushing the vaccine and following standard procedures. It means the ultimate vaccine will be safer and more reliable.

with only one dose--unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. They were using an inactivated adenovirus (common cold strain) to incorporate/deliver the antigen. Further, there would not be the cold chain issues that will arise with the mRNA vaccines.

Guess we shall see what they release in the coming days/weeks.

That will make it more challenging for Typhoid Trump to push them forward before the election - since they highlight the importance of taking the trials at an ordinary pace.

As I explained when this happened with AZ: This is the normal process. This doesn't mean the illness is related to the vaccine. But these things need to get investigated by an independent committee. Happens in many Phase III trials.

First step would be to unblind that person and determine whether the person got the vaccine or the placebo.

We are all learning about these vaccine trials while it's happening. Its interesting. I'm glad they are investigating the subject of the illness.

Thank goodness for the people who volunteer for this... really!
