The Chief Medical Officer for the NFL doesn't believe in the "bubble model. Doesn't think that prevents spread.
NFL COVID Cases in last test cycle: 47!
NBA had NONE in a dozen games and entire playoffs.
NHL had NONE.
They used the " bubble model".
NFL, with a doctor in charge not believing in the bubble have had INFINITY times the number of cases.
Sorry, didn't catch the name on the crawl.
But, what a dolt!

(34,466 posts)Notice that I so kindly didn't mention Novak's disastrous covid-spreader event, pre-bubble.

(269,157 posts)and we both know Rafa uses those sparingly - he still doesn't know what hit him.
So satisfying to watch Rafa take that joke apart.

BTW: His name is Allen Sills.
He's a neurosurgeon. Doesn't appear to understand airborne illnesses all that well, though.

(35,445 posts)That's the real reason. It would have cost too much to house players, coaches, and support staff. Yes, the NFL makes a ton of money, but they are also cheap as hell.
Frankly, I think that a bubble would have made the games better. Less distractions among the players.

(65,136 posts)It cost the NBA & NHL a ton. But, they got to finish their season without incident. And collected TV, merchandise, and direct sponsorship $ by playing. I'm not sure they still made a profit. But, if they don't play at all, they have zero coming in.
With the NFL mostly playing in empty stadiums, it doesn't matter much where they play.
Gotta be the cheap thing.
They start having cancelled games, & we'll be hearing a different tune.

(65,136 posts)I know 2 other players and at least 2 caddies were infected. So, this is either 5 or 6
And a few recent tournaments were small field events. So that's quite a lot.

(14,856 posts)... would be complaining about the supposed extra costs of bubble implementation, and he'd want a bailout from the other owners. Doesn't matter if it's true or not.
Just a matter of time until more games get cancelled and they're never played later.

(3,183 posts)The NBA and NHL did it for the playoffs. I don't think a bubble is on the table for the next regular season for either sport, whenever they start. Football also would need a minimum of 4 bubble locations, they can't have multiple professional games being played on the same turf every weekend.

(65,136 posts)I do think some are making to much of Players Assoc. resistance.
It's not like that union to back down when push comes to shove.
If the option is bubble or no season, they would fold.
There are LOTS of NFL players who will play only 4 or 5 years, under 3 contracts for a total of $3 million. One canceled season is huge fraction of their career earnings.
The resistance would come with the guys with large guaranteed deals. But, there are 30 guys on every team who have no guarantees about anything
They would go the bubble if it meant making that season's money.
A simple majority vote and there might be a bubble.
