(1,789 posts)I am lucky, I get to wait in a short line in a rural county just south of San Antonio. It would be nice to turn Texas, no stopping a landslide then.

(7,447 posts)unfortunately, we just don't know yet. Is this extra turnout indicating a wave? Is this just cannibalizing the election day vote for our side?
The good news is every early vote is an actual vote that won't be stopped by COVID concerns or long lines on election day, or bad weather, or a flat tire or any of the things that can keep someone from voting on election day.
So every early vote is never a bad thing, we just won't know how good it is until election night.

(25,380 posts)I think Covid and also new voting machines are complicating things. I'm thankful for all the new polling sites! Also election judges are having to cancel an unprecedented amt of mail ballots because voters have changed their minds. This takes alot of time.

(7,447 posts)That folks were anticipating long lines and are waiting moreso than 2016.
We really won't know til election day.

(10,156 posts)Amarillo is normally Trump country. But I think there are more liberals here that most people don't acknowledge. I had to wait voting since I couldn't wait an hour.
First time I ever saw a line of people waiting to vote here.

(13,043 posts)redder than many other rural city in TX. BUT from what i can see the SW quadrant of Amarillo is a newer, more affluent area of town & more left leaning due to newcomers moving in.
Even in the outer suburbs here in the Austin area there were long lines the first day. Rachel Maddow is mentioning Harris Cty - a gigantic county - shattering records & offering drive-thru voting. Novel!!!
Chris Odonnell just mentioned the large turnout in TX major cities as well.
I don't doubt TX will go for Biden this election. Even the Republican lady standing near me lamented how horrible 45 is for the country & is voting for Joe. We can do this!!

(13,043 posts)and win. It's a tall order but plausible. She is from Round Rock, in my county & just a half hour from me.
Beto's campaign to register 1 million TX voters has actually registered 2.9 million - yowza!!
Texans are very energized for MJ & all Dems overall. MJ is awesome!!
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)Mean Beto lost by 2%. Add 2.9 million more voters and it should show. I don't see how MJ could lose if Biden wins. I think it'll have coattails long enough to deliver the state to him and net one in the Senate. I really hope for the statehouse because we'll control the redistricting. Only 9 seats is all we need.

Thank Beto if things pivot. He's been working his butt off down here registering people and keeping us all working hard to change this state. I don't care if he's your flavor of Democrat, or not. He's dedicated and hardworking more than anyone else we've seen here in recent history. ❤️

(10,156 posts)2018 brought in new excitement when he ran for the Senate. Despite losing by 2%. It shows the demographics are not in the cons favor in Texas. If Texas flips. It's because Beto was the first one to cast a line in the river.

(13,043 posts)in TX. OR he will run for TX governor in 2022. Darn i'd love that.
Here's hoping he w/ be a future President from TX!!!

(1,425 posts)Cornyn has consistently polled lower than Cruz, thanks to Cruz Sr. being the pastor/cult leader of a mega-church in the DFW area. Beto had everything in place to make another run for Senate, but he got distracted by the allure of running for a more impressive position.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Beto fan. I just wish he had paid more attention to the polls and run when it was most advantageous for him to snag a Senate seat, and then looked to a higher office. Beto could have beaten Cornyn AND have inspired his supporters to vote straight D. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, I guess, but I've worked county level campaigns in TX for over 30 years. I see Beto's decision to run for President, rather than Senator, one of biggest miscalculations I've ever seen.

(1,425 posts)I'd prefer Beto to run for Lt. Governor. That's a much more powerful office than Governor in TX.

(22,264 posts)It is set up very nicely.
October 5 was the last day to register to vote. So many people came to the Elections office they had to stay open until 10:00pm . There were voters and registration drops both. and they had different color tents for the drive throughs. It was awe inspiring.
Tarrant CO has 50 early voting sites, evenly distributed around the county.
To be honest I don't get why folks don't wait a couple of days to vote early. With 50 locations and earaly voting through the 30th, they don't need to stand in line like that. I would certainly wait it out until a few days have gone by, or look for a less crowded location.
