PoliticoShe gave them a standard Biden-Harris sign instead. When Chandler, a local Democratic Party vice-chair, asked why, as Republicans, they were voting for Biden, the woman said: [Donald Trump] wouldnt wear a mask.
That was four days before the president tested positive for coronavirus and an outbreak ensued among Trump allies and staff.
In Arizona as elsewhere, Trumps handling of the pandemic even prior to his diagnosis is proving costly, leaving him struggling to match his 2016 performance among those over the age of 65. October polling shows Biden is chipping away at Trumps support among older white voters, especially among the once reliably Republican senior population in populous Maricopa County.

(25,816 posts)Here in Cochise County (the Sierra Vista area), folks are predominantly repubs. Luckily
our congressional district extends up to Pima County so our Representative is a Democrat,
Ann KirkpatricK. She is heavily favored to win again.

(66,387 posts)I was in elementary school when I lived at Ft. Huachuca. But we attended several events at SVHS. I remember a huge, beautiful mural of a Hopi-style sun-image on the outer wall of the gymnasium.
Is it still there?

(66,387 posts)I took a look at my old neighborhood on Luke Street on Google Earth.
It's all gone. Empty fields.
The houses there were basic in the extreme (even for officers and their families). Cinderblock bungalows painted one of three pastel colors, pink, blue, or green. My house was pink.
No air conditioning back then, even for Arizona's blistering summers. Just a swamp cooler out back.
Still, growing up there as a kid was an idyllic experience.

(47,501 posts)they still need and want seniors' votes. Republicans and Trump rely heavily on the votes of people over 65 and dead people can't vote.
Trump keeps shooting himself in the foot. He says that virtually no one is affected by COVID, except for the elderly and people with medical conditions. In other words, a big fat 'f*ck you' to a sizable percentage of his voters. This man can't do anything right, such a loser.

(47,501 posts)Now they are all over the place primarily because of their allegiance to Trump. So all they can do is lie more and cheat everyway possible. You really, really can't fool all the people all the time and in their case, they can't fool enough people to win an election.

(14,764 posts)It's a retweet of a meme with 3 older women in wheelchairs, visible only from the neck down; you are meant to think nursing home or senior center. It isn't an elegant or a luxurious scene.
The words at the bottom are the "Biden for President" logo with the "P" crossed out. But in essence it is not going to be taken well by anyone old enough to relate.
It's like saying if you end up in this picture, you are a loser.

Thing is about repubs especially vulgardon-- he can dish it out but can't take it. Yes, I expect Biden, Harris, Pelosi other Dems to be above the fray, yet we are not dealing with normal.

It's a dig on Joe Biden needing to be placed into a senior home.
getagrip_already
(14,764 posts)But what it is saying is that if you end up in a wheelchair in a group environment, you are a loser.
He will never in his mind be that person. He will be among bigly celebrities who will fawn over him. He will be among servants who will pamper him. He won't be around losers who are stuck with each other. In his mind.
Lots of prisons have aging populations, some in wheelchairs. Karma is slow, but delicious.

(65,403 posts)apparently nursing home residents. Biden's face is superimposed on one man's body. The point is to suggest that Biden is a senior resident of a nursing home.
It's insulting to every senior who resides in a nursing home, and to seniors generally.

(6,229 posts)why did seniors vote repub anyway? Are they racist and/or rich? It makes no sense to me.
not_the_one
(2,227 posts)Most of these seniors were boomers who had the hopes and dreams of the 60's generation. We were going to change the world. For the better.
But then we graduated from college, got a good job, to the point of investing in 401Ks, owned our own home, then retired to FL, AZ (or wherever...). Then it became all about the money. We changed the world alright, we helped elect the turd. The $$$ "owned" the ideals.
I don't believe this group of boomers are racists or haters. But they are obsessed with the $$$ and the trappings that go with it.
Sadly, there is so truth to the "money is the root of all evil" meme.

(254 posts)I live in a town where democrats have the edge. So, as I approach 66 years old I can tell you the election here in Arizona will as usual be won or lost with those voters in the Phoenix Metro and surrounding communities. That is where the vast majority of Arizona voters reside.
If you were to add up every other town and area in the state you still wouldn't be able to elect Biden. So, the "valley" will be the key to a victory.
However, I don't agree that Arizona is a toss up state and remains solidly in the republican column. Sad to say.
