While Americans have boring discussions about mask/no mask, hoaxes and militias

Some other countries are just working the problem and adapting better.

American ingenuity has been replaced by the RC factor — resistance to change.

I watch NHK World a lot, because American culture is making me sick. There have been some lovely programs about adapting to the pandemic.

And there’s empathy galore.

First there were the kids with little rings around them to keep their distance. And plenty of science shows on effective ventilation or fluorescent touch patterns.

Yesterday there was a show on a chorus that has returned to singing music in a concert hall. They tested the airflow on the stage, saw that the front of the stage air flow was outward and too dispersed. They added little chin masks along with upward pointing fans on each singers jacket to carry aerosols away. They asked the audience not to join in the singing, and booked at 25%, sang for an hour not two — but a step forward, taken prudently.

They don’t hate each other in Japan, enough to want to go wide open on bars and restaurants. Even foreigners living there have been the subject of empathetic programs on how they were coping in Japan when their jobs or businesses have faltered, and about programs to help them.

Now, I’m watching a segment about amusement parks. A man decided people were missing them, especially children. He created a website with videos of many rollercoasters As if you were riding them, and they showed all these families in their living rooms — who put their kid in a box or a laundry basket, rocking it forward, backward or side to side while the kid watches the roller coaster video on a screen, and a fan or hairdryer is used to create air flow on the kids face.

The parents and child are giggling and having a great time.

Now, it’s drive-thru haunted houses.

On American TV, somber men fight tedious arguments over masks, guns, and bigotry all day long.

When did this country get so primitive?

a 'civic hacker'.
had some great ideas. but my fave was social media posts about distancing, using shiba inu as yard sticks. literally. 'when outside, keep 3 shiba inu apart, when inside stay apart by 3 dogs.'

also they found a way around ppl being afraid to report being positive. they set up anonymous contacts, w single use emails and burner phones.

pretty much everyone is doing it better than we are.
