I have known people like this my entire life. They have erected a wall around them, have a demeanor that keeps people at a distance, and have no warmth emanating from them.
This of course has nothing to do with competency, but I think this is making her refusal to answer question all the more annoying.

(4,316 posts)I am just talking about interactions in life, nothing to do with their politics. That said, I think women can be more "catty" and insincere, to pretend to be nice.

(40,212 posts)If a man were behaving like this, I would have also called him a cold fish.
In fact, I have known men who are cold fish.
The status of a cold fish is gender neutral.

(7,432 posts)Of course she misplaces her anger on her kids. She belongs to this handmaiden-submissive private religious "People of Praise" Catholic group that diminishes and disempowers women and shuns them if they object. Barrett's husband had to accompany her to an OB-GYN medical appointment to make sure that she didn't ask for BIRTH CONTROL prescriptions. And Barrett's husband was supported by People of Praise and their requirement that women submit to their husbands' commands.
When I watch Barrett, I see her pious, holier-than-thou perspective as consistent with conservative Irish Catholics in my extended family. Barrett is part of the Notre Dame culture of the belief that Catholics, and especially Irish Catholics, are God's chosen people, which means that any of their failings or falls from grace, are easily forgiven because God views them with enormous favor. So they come off as elitist snobs who are better, both religiously, and RACIALLY, than anyone else. That's the Notre Dame culture. That's the draw to Touchdown Jesus.

(1,977 posts)Sorry but this is more of the same crap that we saw with Hillary being attacked for being cold, unlikable, etc.
It doesnt matter and it furthers the crap that women have to deal with in their professions.
There are plenty of things to rip her for.

(1,977 posts)It is dumb for the reasons I mentioned.
There is no need to attack her for attributes that have nothing to do with the position.

(6,537 posts)but, as noted up thread, didn't she say something like she would only apply the letter, and not the spirit, of the law? I want my law served up with justice, compassion, and perhaps some juror pity on occasion.
I think people need to push past their childhoods and do their very best on their own, keeping in mind that what they have gone through impacts them greatly. But, you can't be exonerated for some high crime just because you got punched by life. So, there's that.
But, there has to be a reasonable application of justice and what evens things out, without expectations of miracles that will change the perp. I want someone to apply the law at the highest level.
I don't think this judge has enough experience, and that she has been picked because of her gender and politics. I suppose that is how they all get picked, though.
