(13,108 posts)I didn't measure the chocolate chips, pecans, or coconut.
I don't usually measure or use a recipe.
I have always been an experimental cook.
I made a meatloaf Monday.
I added 2 and a half ounces of chopped bacon to the recipe.
The bacon was smoked.
The smoke flavor permeated the meatloaf.
It was delicious.
I love cooking.
I use to be a cook on the Ohio River. Floated up and down on a Tug Boat pushing barges.
On 21 days, off 21 days.

(16,110 posts)thumbprint for my oldest son.
Started with my standard dough and am working to get the texture right.
My biggest kid will be happy when I perfect it. Ah, he'd be happy with it not perfect.

(13,108 posts)I am sure he loves your homemade goodies.
what an interesting job.
Bacon in meatloaf sounds good.

3 home cooked meals per day for 7 people.
They didn't eat leftovers.
They all wanted different things.
I worked from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
There was no dishwasher or microwave oven.
The captain said if the galley had a dishwasher they wouldn't need a cook.
I worked 14 hours per day.
The crew worked 6 hours on 6 hours off.
If they stopped for groceries in the middle of the night I would have to get up
and put them away.
Typical breakfast:
homemade biscuits and sausage gravy
bacon
sausage
eggs; scrambled or fried
oatmeal
toast
pancakes
My first order was for $2,700 and that was in the early 90's.
When we were at the end of our trip I would have to clean out all the refrigerators
and freezers. Clean the oven. Wash the blinds. Clean out the pantry. Wash the floor mats
in the galley, and wipe the walls down. We had to clean our rooms, the showers, change
the beds, pack our stuff and have everything ready for the next crew.
Try the bacon in your next meatloaf, I think you will like it.

(13,108 posts)I never heard of Cowboy Cookies so I looked up the recipe.
I am not a big fan of cinnamon in cookies.
I like it in cinnamon rolls and cinnamon cakes.
That's about as far as I go with cinnamon.
I do like oatmeal cookies with or without raisins. (no cinnamon)
Me.
(35,454 posts)In any recipe, I always cut it by half and that seems to work for me.

Say,... you would have a good recipe for carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. would you. When I was a kid they said, "eat those damn carrots". But I never did,... now my vision suffers.
I'll be right over for the piece of carrot cake.
SamKnause
(13,108 posts)I don't like it.
I like a good spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

(6,537 posts)The first one was never delivered, and Amazon refunded my money. Then, I bought another one, which arrived okay.
But, I haven't used it, because I think I have some kind of performance issue. I have the flour and some yeast, but there are other things I need that I haven't bothered to buy.
I want to learn how to bake bread, to eliminate the issue of needing bread--who knew how much you need bread!
Then, I dream about baking cakes and cookies--my real goal--but, I'm not sure why I can't get started...

(13,108 posts)You will love your fresh baked bread.

Good luck and I am sure you will get started shortly.
