Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAmy Coney Barrett is unqualified
She won't admit that a president can't delay an election.
She won't say that voter intimidation is illegal.
She used the term "sexual preference" to refer to LGBTQ people
And she can't name the five freedoms guaranteed in the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.

(2,345 posts)I always get confused on the Handmaid capitalization.
Can we just talk to Mr. Barrett?
MuseRider
(34,111 posts)Ofjesse. I could be wrong, I see an OfMatthew in the cast list but the few others there do not capitalize the name after of. I cannot remember how it was in the book, it has been a long time since I read it.
I assume we ARE talking to Mr. Barrett. Disgusting thought, it makes me cringe and worry a lot.

(9,895 posts)You would drop dead if the dregs appointed to the federal bench got more attention than they do. Hopelessly unqualified political operatives infest the federal bench now, and nearly all of them are 30-50 years old, with a skew to the low end of that range.

(53,784 posts)things you'd do in preparing for this hearing. But really, shouldn't she knows those without struggling to list them.
God! She is not qualified for the highest court in the land. She answered that like a first year law student trying to remember what she crammed on the night before an exam.

(40,212 posts)Maybe she is nervous, but she doesn't seem to be. She isn't bright.
Watching her count on her fingers was particularly hard to watch.
She was a good student at Notre Dame Law School and taught there until she was put on the Court of Appeals by Trump. She was put on the Court of Appeals to set her up for the SC., not because she is a great legal scholar or a particularly great intellect, but rather because she is a right wing religious zealot who will tow the Republican Party line on the court.
This nomination makes a joke out of the SC. The SC has become another venue of political hackery.

Oh, right. She's in that People of Praise sect.

(53,784 posts)It's sad really. She seems in the thrall of menof Scalia still, who has long been in the grave, trump, who her answers indicate she's auditioning for, and her husband, who we should be questioning also.
ScratchCat
(1,990 posts)Unanimously, but she will be confirmed without one Republican voting against her. I mean, this is a "no brainer"; completely unqualified if she can't answer those questions or take a clear stance on things where there is no "constitutional grey area".

(33,345 posts)See: Clarence Thomas.
He is 72; he's been a SCOTUS Justice for 29 years. 3 decades of mediocrity. Another 10 years to go, probably.
The GOP doesn't have a goal of appointing the best minds. They want to occupy the seat.
