I think this nominee is lazy.

I think she is a skater. I think she is not intellectually curious. She is not a scholar.

She spent her adult life in a cocoon. She went to law school at Notre Dame, clerked for Scalia, and ended up teaching at Notre Dame - all in the cocoon of her Catholic belief system. She had enough substance to be taken seriously and was pushed along and groomed. She was groomed by the Republican Party and think tanks like The Federalist Society. I don't think she had to fight for anything. I actually think it has been easy for her and when things are easy you don't push yourself.

I don't think she spent all that much time preparing for this hearing. It seems the only thing she prepared for was repeating the lines for the reasons that she couldn't answer any questions and to sit there with a neutral face while she made a mockery of the confirmation process.

Her kids will grow up and get complicated. Maybe her husband will have an affair and leave her, or one of the kids will be out of the closet.
She will be in a room with the same 8 (or 12) people for years.
I think she will be a terrible vote for at least the next 5 years, but after that, who knows? Because she seems pretty weak but she will have actual power, and she will look for someone else on bench from which to take cues.

I’m not downplaying the terrible circumstances. I’m just not sure I’d count on stability in her world views when she becomes a member of a new, far more prestigious club — the SC. The Federalist Society is inside the walls of the SC but the People of Praise group isn’t.

Maybe Kavanaugh will try to grab her in the back room and she will sue him or quit. Maybe she will discover she likes Kagan or Sotomayor and start gradually shedding some of her beliefs.

Or maybe she will be impeached.
