Barrett basically seems to be a proponent of sharia law

Or at least, a minor variant of Sharia law with a slightly different set of religious texts to base law on.

Although in some cases, sharia law and the kind of religiously-dictated law Barrett wants is exactly the same. I'm guessing restrictions on abortion rights, women's rights, lbgtq right, gender, etc. are pretty damn similar.

Yet another form of projection from the right-wing. go crazy panicking about sharia law somehow taking over America, and then install a religious nut as a lifetime justice on the highest court in the land.

No problem here, no siree.

In Saudi Arabia, abortion is allowed in cases of risk to a woman’s life and to protect her physical and mental health. A pregnancy arising from incest or rape might qualify for a legal abortion there under the mental health exemption. Saudi women just got the freedom to drive last year, but it seems they have less to fear when it comes to terminating pregnancies than women in Alabama.

But fir right-wingers, it's just this boogeyman if evil, this whole idea of laws and court decisions being determined by Islamic law.

But of course, they think it's wonderful if it's all based on "Christian" law instead....

If there is only one god, then our god is the true god and we true believers are special people.

All others are heathens who believe in false gods and are damned to hell, the sooner the better.

Personally, I think it's always more about economics and power. Religion is merely how it gets sold to the masses and how they persuade soldiers to lay down their lives for the wealth of their leaders.

The exact religion doesn't matter, certainly not the mythological part of it. What matters is if emotions like greed, hate, resentment, entitlement, honor, pride, etc. can be whipped up and if there's some sense of greater good, duty, reward or punishment. Religion may help the leaders generate that.

I don't think there's anything inherently different about monotheism in that regard.

Christianity and Islam are more inclined to forcibly convert non-believers and to murder those who will not convert. They also have executed apostates and heretics.
