THIS is fantastic!
Notpla is revolutionary material made from seaweed and plants. It biodegrades in weeks, naturally.

(16,172 posts)but do you think the fossil fuel industry will let it go to market? They have to do something with their discards and plastic is one of them.
Gaud I like the idea of edible/biodegradable packaging, if only to get rid of cvs receipts....

(12,480 posts)They could make a sleeve out of ooho and put like 20 waterballs in it. And you can quench a bigger thirst. Imagine 20 different flavors of water in one tube!

(65,076 posts)Short biodegradability (weeks) suggests susceptible to oxidation.
We have way more enzymes in our digestive system than would occur naturally (if at all), or enzymatic water treatment plants.
If it takes weeks in refuse, it would decompose/digest in our bodies in seconds! Oxidative species, blood oxygen and enzymes? Accelerates those reaction by at least 3, to as many as 5 orders of magnitude.
Since it's plant based, the decomposition products are not toxic or rare in our systems. Practically no health risk!
This is a very cool invention!

(31,261 posts)out of that material, bottles that completely digest in the environment, say in a year, and dont release harmful chemicals.
Good start though.
