OH: Traffic congestion drives away some early voters

Heavy traffic headed to the wrong entrance and crowded lines have turned some voters away from Summit County’s early voting center.

The Summit County Democratic Party tweeted a photograph of the congestion, which was caused by too many voters, some of them confused about where to go while trying to drop off ballots or vote early in person.

Following state law, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has ordered all early election activity to be concentrated at county boards of elections.

LaRose's office retweeted a reporter's “easy peasy” early voting experience in Dayton but did not respond to the local Democrats' tweet directed at him expressing concerns.

Some critics called the bottleneck “voter suppression.” Others were unwilling to stand in lines they say look no different than waiting for a movie or an amusement ride before the pandemic.

I will see him on Sunday and ask him about this. This is an outrage!

We dropped off our ballots at the Trumbull Co. BOE on Tuesday ... and my other son went inside to vote. The parking lot was full, with many cars going in and out, but immediately when you pulled in, a worker approached your car and directed you where to go. Signs over building doors told you where Early Voting was and where Ballot Drop Off was. Voting was in one building and drop off was at another building, and they could have done a better job with the traffic pattern, but we found it all right. A sheriff’s deputy sat by the ballot drop off box, which I was glad to see. Between ballot drop off and waiting for my son inside we were there about 15 minutes.
